 newbie coming to Ankara
Dear Ankarans (Ankaranians? Ankaralılar?)
however you want to be addressed...
Had lunch with a guy from US today who is moving from Kentucky to Ankara in the next few weeks. Doing a master's in nuclear engineering at METU. I gave him EIT address and told him to contact FD and Glitter and Oz Kanka for a warm welcome (where is Glitter these days? I haven't heard from her) so you heard it here first...

The bloke is doing nuclear engineering? I hope he has some interests outside of work as my nuclear engineering small talk doesn't last very long. Don't worry though, I'll turn him into a football hooligan.

 hi
well, close... not a master's at metu, just a summer abroad program. i have found (as advised by... i think pollyana) that the water/power is quite irregular. i had hoped that this was a problem of the past, but i have already been thrown up on by the sink a few times, lovely brown water, and experienced some power outages. did i mention that i've been here ~3 days? i wouldn't call myself an expat, just a temporarily misplaced pat. but my time in istanbul was great (but too short, ~4 days), and my time in ankara thus far has been great as well.
anway, my interests outside nuclear engineering are extensive, but rarely in the football hooligan region. i do like to watch world cup matches, though, and pretend like i know what's going on and that i have a team to cheer for, if that counts for anything...

No worries gtrob, the point is mainly that we have something to work on. ie.... you have a passing acquaintance with world cup football, once Flying Dutchman and myself have got you you will be a full-on hooligan.
Welcome to the forum mate. Always great to get another Ankara person here.

I am staying in ebbie (abbie? ebe? abe? A-B? something like that) dorm building 1. it has been a good time thus far, mostly spent with other students in the international summer program, but gradually mixing in with the locals. one of my classes looks to be incredibly easy, the other an incredible annoyance (read 4 books and write 4 ten page papers in 4 weeks... not my style, i do numbers, not words)... but i still have 4-day weekends, so i will get over it. i just hope i can ride this dreamland wave we call university forever, never crashing into the real world.
i did not bring my cell phone here (stupid move) but can be reached via e-mail.... robertadams21@yahoo.com
and why a fan of nuke-eng deano?
ps - USA will defeat Ghana 2-0, you heard it here first.
edit: by the way, glitter, my understanding is that you work at the embassy? could you tell me what i need to do to "register with the embassy"?

Wow that was a fast response... I found the registration thing online right after I posted that, and just now came back to delete that request. I got it sorted out, but thank you anyway!
