Asitane in Kariye Otel (next to the Kariye/Chora Church)
We had a superb lunch with visitors at the Asitane restaurant in the Kariye Otel next to the Kariye/Chora Museum. They have a gorgeous Ottoman-style menu (apparently they use authentic Sultan's recipes that have been extensively researched). At the moment they are renovating the outdoor garden seating, but they should be finished in the next few weeks. It was the perfect way to finish a lovely tour of the area with guests from out of town.

p.s. we only ordered 4 mezes and a cheese plate- nice, big portions...more than enough for the four of us

 Cost per person
As I mentioned, we had four starters (hot mezes) and a big cheese plate + drinks (soft) and the total was 80-ish (so 20 ytl/person). We didn't have mains, but I think they were in the 20-30 ytl range.
I was impressed with the size of each dish. We had plenty in each to divide between four.

I read in an Istanbul book that Istanbul was called "Asitane" before... (apparently after the times it was called Constantinapolis) That is news to me.
