Post Best Beer in Town
So the first thing I did when I got back to Istanbul was to go to as many pubs as possible. So I have tried every kind of beer they sell in Istanbul so far I think except the Czech Budweiser (actually I tried it just too drunk to remember). Anyways the only places I have found so far that have "Good" beer (again this is relative). Have been TAPS (I left my wallet and two fingers and an ear here) and BALANS (quite reasonable for the beer). Any other pubs I am missing that have different Beer. And yes I know Guiness (yes and I know what a half and half is). So help me out AA or whoever.

The Belfast Pub in Moda sometimes carries a nice German beer at a reasonable price. The name escapes me and I haven't seen it elsewhere in Istanbul.

Other than that sometimes you strike it lucky. There is a small vegetarian restaurant near Galatasaray Lycee which had brought a couple of suitcases of a German Weiss beer in about a year ago. I discovered it by accident and stopped by a few times until they ran out. I'll have to take a looksie to see if they have a new shipment & I'll let you know the specifics.

I can only guess that we're talking about the same beer, when I say that Kay's in cihangir also has a few German (weiss) beers.

The choice is limited I think:
Taps Balans Kays Fotini
I'm drinking the Turkish Gusta beer myself these days which is realy nice and not as problematic shall we say as Efes.

Balans possibly has the worse beer in the world.
I like Taps though.

Yeah - started off OK but now you just can't get a good beer. Too popular maybe. Rarely have all the beers available and the place has become so greedy. Taps is double the price though but it does have the selection.

I guess the weiss beer you're talking about is Erdinger - you can get it from Makro other than that I like Budwar and Sol. Tucher and Moretti aren't bad and Asahi is great but quite expensive and only available in a few limited places. Of them all I would go for the Erdinger or Budwar.

Yeah, the beer at balans also gives me a huge pounding headache even when i only drink 4 or 5, BUT its going to be the place to be for the rugby world cup, the manager's getting all geered up with flags etc, also advised he might be able to get other beers in esspecially for the world cup. Cant wait !
