 best fish restaurants in Istanbul
Am looking to find the best (all round package) fish restaurants in Istanbul. Here are some of the ones that I have liked so far. Any comments/suggestions (particually of some Asian side gems) would be most helpful:
[all the ones listed below get 5 stars, and I note the list in MM (am looking for personal recommendations)]
1. kiyi (pricey but definitely the best fish restaurant I have been to in Istanbul) 2. Korfez (nice venue and worth trying the salted cod) 3. Balik Sahbbatin (nice venue, good mezes, good fish) 4. Place Clive knows in Besiktas, near the haman (great value, excellent fish) 5. Adem Baba in Arnavutkoy (local: great fish, great calamari, great value) 6. Hisar Iskele near Rumeli (good views over the Bosphorous, good fish)

Done loads here: Fishmekan, Deep Blue, Poseidon, Kıyı, Fener, one next to Polat, the celebrity place in Sultanahmet next to the railtracks, Balikci Sabahattin, the fish sandwich place down by Galata Bridge - best cooked fish I had? Small canteen place in Yeşilköy. Perfect.

Del Mare in Cenglekoy. Top class seafood ravioli and always a good selection of whole fish to choose from. They have their own water taxi to transport you to/from Europe as necessary but crikey is this place expensive. Also I had some very good Turbot at a place in Tuzla frequented by shipowners. I can't remember the name but I can tell you how to get there.

Starting at the Shipyards and heading away from Istanbul along the coast, follow the road around the marshy inlet/bay in the direction of the naval base. From memory you'll enter into a housing estate with the bulk of the houses on your left. Take a right at the sign for a 'Rodizio' restaurant (useful waypoint but not our restaurant) and you'll see the fish restaurant where the road meets the beach. I've not been for a while but a suspect this is the beach where the Tuzla beach club (Laila?) is now located.

Thanks for all the replies so far There's an ocean of ideas out there (all of which I intend to try). Particularly like the sound of Simon's un-named turbot eaterie in Tuzla.

Can you cook JC? Depending on the answer that is my recommendation for eating fish in Istanbul. You just don't get the menu variety/quality here.

hmm these things take time and effort, but agree that if you can find fresh fish why not do it yourself. To cook fish well is very difficult though, I would argue. Or perhaps I just cannot cook
