Ate here last night - mezes, fish, views and service all superb http://www.dogabalik.com.tr/en/iletisim.asp Deco left a little to be desired but apparently it's like that on purpose. It's above a hotel which could have been the Zuri or Zurich - we can't remember - and there's a bar upstairs too which we didn't have time to visit this time but plenty of people coming in as we left.
Is the Taj close to there? That'll save me from getting too lost and completely ripped off by taxi drivers on Saturday....

Yeah - take 5 mins. Basically follow the traffic all the way to the restaurant.
Come out of Doga, turn left (away from the mosque and big tea house on the corner), keep walking down (Porte is on right)then round a bit to the left (pass a car park) then round a bit to the right onto Susam Sokak. Go down down down, past the fruit shop and dustbins. At Sok (on right) go left then take first right downhill. This is Akyol. Go down and on the left is Taj Mahal.

As always, Charly comes to the rescue with her excellent navigational skills. Thanks to you too, if not for you, I would not have known about that mosque even though I passed that street many times on my way to Sesame Street and Istiklal Caddesi. I love that neighborhood especially the refreshing summer juices and healthy fare at Cuppa.

BTW, I had dinner at Doga Balik this summer too. I was staying in Cihangir at Akyol Sokak for a week. The views are pretty good from Doga Balik but the views from the balcony of my host/hostess' flat was just amazing. I saw Taj Mahal too on the way down but unfortunately, I didn't get to try it. Let us know how the food is.
