 Falafel
Hey people. Just want to ask whether any of you have seen a falafel joint anywhere in IST? I've looked everywhere and I can't find a place which makes falafel!! I really miss my weekly falafel... Please, if you know such a place PLEASE say so If you don't know what falafel is: Falafel is made of chick peas and lots of herbs and other veggie goodies. They look like small golf balls

There's a restaurant called "The Wrap" in Etiler that makes a wrap-style sandwich with filafel inside. Might not be exactly what you're looking for, but it's a start.

You'd expect it in the Middle Eastern restaurants - isn't there a Lebanese place around? I know there's an Iranian one in Pera called Pars. I always find falafel is a great idea that never lives up to expectations.
Tukan used to do it but I've never been and can't verify if it even exists anymore. Tel: 0212 292 99 07/08 Zambak Sok. 9, Beyoğlu

It's on Tepecik Yolu in Akatlar. You can also order from them on yemeksepeti.com, if you want to try them at work.

Hi twistygirldk
I agree with what charly says "that it never lives up to expectations" but only in places that dont have middle eastern cooks. It a very simple dish to prepare actually but tricky so you have to get it at a place that has been doing it for years. I know of a place in Ankara but not in Istanbul so I cant help you out there. But like I said make sure its done in an experienced place or you'll be disappointed.

Ah...to resurrect a dead thread yet again...
I just discovered that for some reason, Nefish, a fish restaurant with locations in Etiler and Caddebostan (so you can order from them both at home and at work) sells filafel sandwiches. Both locations are on yemeksepeti.com.

5.Kat in Cihangir. It's a starter, small and hard balls but tasty enough not to make you think you are eating dried-up chickpeas. Served with tahini (great!). Just need some pitta, salad and for me chilli sauce! http://www.5kat.com/

Hi,
We had some very nice falafel at the 360 restaurant in Beyoglu last week. We ordered a few portions for the table so our guests could try them. They all enjoyed, considering it was the first time for some of our friends to try them. We'd definately go back for more.

I oftenly get the falafel paste from Egypt and fry it . It can resist easy the trip from Cairo till here and remain frozen . If not a place where you can get real Falafel as well is in Aksaray , on a paralell street of Vatan Cad. behind the metro station of Aksaray ; there is lots of restaurants serving Antakya specialities and they have the falafel , tahin , Humus , foul . For the moment cant invite you coz , i am done with my stock . Next delivery of frozen Falafel from Egypt by january !
