Post Imroz meyhane Nevizade sokak (and also meyhanes in general)
I thought I would just give this place a shout as it is an excellent meyhane and the owner is a legend. :D

Bask in the glory of the cold mezzes; they do wonderful things with aubergine and the cold fish (for example the octopus and the tuna is glorious). People watch until you can't help smiling; such as the serving staff who form an incredibly bureaucratic line until the final lira note is passed to the (at least septegenerian) owner to be interted in a very old skool cash register. High five said owner (same brown jumper and jacket; presides over the restaurant with pride and humour) before leaving.

Would also be interested to know what other meyhanes EIT people love.

I highly recommend Galata Meyhanesi. Reservations usually required I guess, as I was turned away twice as a walk-up. The night I was there there was fasıl (live Turkish classic music) and it was very high-quality & fun to dance to after the requisite amount of rakı. The mezes were really out of this world - especially the various pastes (walnut, cheese, etc.) Unfortunately the main dish was average at best...it could only be described as sauteed trout balls with vegetables. But for atmosphere, service & mezes it is the best meyhane I have been to in Istanbul. The price was 40 YTL.

Cibalikapi is great...really unusual meze selection. We hardly ever get to the main course. Service is great too.

In Europe I really like Sofyali in Tunel, I prefer both of these places to Nevizade. I think the service and food is far better quailty (also the decor/lighting it bothers me when a place is too bright)

Booking is a must at both places
