Mono - Awesome 80's music dancebar
How is it that I've lived in Istanbul for 5 years and have never been to Mono? Doing a search for Mono posts on EiT, I've seen it mentioned a few times in the past, but no one's ever explained that they play NOTHING BUT 80'S music, all night! I was in heaven, to say the least! It felt like a high school dance, minus the groping hands and the dj yelling out "Snowball!". Amazing how all the lyrics come back to you, even with a few glasses of wine under your belt! Here's the info for the bar, if you're ever so inclined to have a great time dancing to tunes that we all know and love (come on, admit it. You love 80's tunes! *grin*)
Mono Music Cafe

From Taksim square, turn right at Mavi Jeans (on the left-handside), go to the end of the alleyway and turn right. Mono's a little place on your left.

Oh my god! You've found it! I loathe the place but every weekend it is packed with girls singing and dancing...and boys looking and wondering...

An eighties bar... Awesome!
Do they only play dance or also some new-wave and indie from the eighties? The Smiths, Bunnymen, The Cure, etc... Or should I expect only real eighties dance and pop?

Hmmm... I recall hearing a few new songs that the 2 Europeans I was with recognized that I (a Canadian) didn't... so they might play other stuff. But there was also a lot of wonderful recognizable fluff: Wham, Eurythmics, Madonna, etc.
I've since heard that they play the same line-up of music every night - don't know if anyone can confirm that? The DJ looked like he was pouring over his CD collection and picking as he went... so I don't know if that's true...

What time is the last bus back from Taksim to Asia at night? A colleague of mine told there are busses throughout the night to Kadiköy or environment, is that true?

There are night buses, and dolmus' that work 24 hours a day, so shouldn't really be a problem.

so from Taksim Square you can return home to Asia at anytime during the night? Handy. Where do those busses go to exactly (Kadikoy is furthest I suppose?)

I tried going to Mono but was told at the entrance that access was only possible for those taking a girlfriend with them.
What the heck has this city got against single men? In the swimming pools they're acting difficult as well about someone going by himself...

They're keeping out the Magandas. As a girl, I feel very happy about this policy.

Plenty of women of the night around there you could take along to get in although it is going to make your night a bit more pricey.
