btw, gilly.
In most clubs in istanbul/turkey it's hard to get in if you are trying to get in with only guys.

I like it.
it keeps the ratio of men and women pretty much even.
keeps it from turning into a sausuge fest.

'Sausage fest' !

Hehe.....interesting symbolism :)

Well, seriously, I think this policy is nothing but stupid discrimination...but I won't defend my point of view again here in this thread...some time back, I did, and then it ended up in a heated argument with someone (forgot who that was...too lazy to go through the old threads....hehe).

Discrimination...period.

Hehe...sorry....couldn't help it :)

Cheers,

Cem

It has been awhile since I went to Vancouver or Toronto but in Paris, London, Istanbul, St.Tropez and Cannes as far as my own experience goes, as long a girl is dressed in a subtly sexy way (no need to wear that plunging neckline or backless number), is hip , well-groomed and exudes a cool charming 'tude but with class, she's in. She can even be in the arm of an equally sassily dressed guy for that matter. Here in San Fran, we have a vartiety of mo's. There are invitation-only parties where a VIP or Diamond member can bring 3 guests but as of late, at least two girls have to be female. I believe that these gigs tend attract more men and the party promoters do want to have at least 1:1 ratio or if there are more girls, the better it is for the guys. Uh hum. That policy was clearly created by a guy. Dont cha think so? Entry to top events is always guaranteed if you know the club owner, the DJ or the promoter personally as in any venue anywhere. In the US, one way of entering a club without lining up is prepurchase a ticket online and going to the Will Call line - which is not the longest line. Most big venues like Ruby Skye has a guest list line, too. Mighty in San Francisco does not have such discriminatory policy. Anybody who is willing to pay a nominal fee can get in. Of ourse the line gets longer at certain peak periods but the weekend parties there are until 4 am (VS the usual 2 am limit) so there's plenty of time to dance to the top DJs spinning their sets. World famous Miguel Migs has a weekend party there called Salted Saturdays. There are also some savvy event producers/promoters who have a permanent VIP list that they so cleverly and thoughtfully created. This means that at their every event, a VIP's name is automatically in the list + 2 guests (they don't care about the gender). With this policy, they don't have to create a list at each event but they have their carefully selected "cool VIPs" list that they are happy to invite to their events.
Less promotion for them and less paperwork. The option is ours to show up or not as long as we get there before midnight. It's a win-win situation and should be adopted by Istanbul promoters if they want to attract a good crowd. It's like a reward too for those who bring them the cool and hip factor but also good business overall.

BTW, I heard there we a lot of post F1 "sausage fests" in Istanbul. I'm glad I didn't show up at either event. Guys I know who went there said there certainly were more hunters than gatherers and it was awful.

Is "Suite" the old Evo in Nisantasi? Beds are so overrated...it started a while ago in NYC at the Whiskey Blue at the W right? Does anybody have any idea who is the"bed"in a bar/club pioneer? Maybe it's Hugh Hefner...

There's the "Apartment" in Chicago's Lincoln Park district. Loaded with ex-Big 10 bottle blondes. (barf)

Post Suite - Turkbuku
I was in Suite Turkbuku in early August this summer. It's the former Granga Beach Club just under new management. I still like the location. My friends and I hung out there during the day although we also went to Maca Kizi, Fidele (to join friends) and Buz Buz. At Suite, the actual bar/restaurant venue used to be this huge place with a grassy area on one side with an open, pavilion-type restaurant and wide outer seating areas with white cushions spread everywhere. Now that area is split into three parts. By the beach promenade, one can walk to the partking lot street straight through if you turn away from the bay. On either side is Suite and ADA Sahil (which is part of the ultra luxe ADA Hotel). Then the back part is a retail area with a central yard. ADA's restaurant serves good salads, decent lunch fare (frito misto) and the water was alway brimming with ice. Service was attentive. Sadly, it is mostly empty during the day but is busier with older diners in the evenings. In the meantime, Suite at daytime serves amazing breakfasts and OK salads (nothing to write home about) and it rocks with a very cool and trendy crowd of twenty and thritysomethings. Two DJs alternating (one plays house music, the other are more Euro club staples and Tukish pop) make for a clubby beach scene. It was featured in that NYTimes travel article as one of the hippest places to hang but we already knew that, of course. :)
