Post taj mahal indian restaurant
ok
so last night we are heading up one of the hills of cihangir in a taxi from besiktas.... and we drove past taj mahal restaurant.
is that the same one that used to be over by the german hospital but closed down?
has anyone been there?
and how do we get there again?? haha - i have no idea what route the taxi was taking.. it seemed to be at the bottom of .. some hill
we tend to go to tandoori quite often but would like another option (ever since my favourite, dubb, became rude and overpriced) - and y'all dont seem to be giving that musafir place much of a recommendation.
so thank in advance for any info you all have! my friends and i do love our indian food - too bad there is not one on the asian side!!

Post Here is your local bar and restaurant guide.
That place is on Akyol Sk. Parallel to Cihangir Cad (Başkurt Sk). It's the back street up into Cihangir from Kabataş. Never see people in the restaurant but my mates order takeaway weekly from there and they say it's great (they are also vegetable munchers like you 'Nana). T. 0212 292 58 96

Thanks for that address. I love Indian food, but in 10 days Istanbul I could only trace 1 Indian restaurant (Dubb, located next to Sultanahmet square)

Banana,

You basically ask to go to Cihangir via Findikli, then they will take you up that hill, (which is right at Akbank/Ak sigorta on the seaside, 500m after Kabatas) once you turn the sharp left hand bend (where the taxi stop/office and Garanti ATM) its 50 meters up on the right. Hard to see from the road, as you know, cause its one of those semi-basement-on-the-hill places.

We live around the corner so regularly get a take away from there, but never eat in, as Charlty said - nobody does. I like it, it just about satisfies my Indian urges!

But there are NO real Indian restaurants in Istanbul (including Dubb, who are the closest, but still light years away) and yes Musafir is the WORST! Don't even go there!

BTW, I cook the best curry in Istanbul (after Emma and Becky) and I can do veggie curries, so you're welcome to step a few more yards and come to ours, free food if you bring the beer!

I very often eat Indian, and I found Dubb satisfying. It did not have the feeling of the Indian restaurants like I'm used to, but the food was very decent. Their lentil dish was very nice especially, and their soups and starters were very satisfying as well. They do close very early though, I arrived just after 10pm and they said it was closed :?

Exactamondo! :D Well worth it when you just need to satisfy that craving. I've only been once, but as I live in Cihangir it's quicker to make one that make the trip there.

thanks for the offer of exchanging curries for beers gilly :D i am pretty good at currying-up the veggies myself too! i still have not visited this place... i always end up back at tandoori - i like it there. their saag panir and chana masala is super super good!
but perhaps i need to venture off to this one and check it out.
and as far as dubb goes... i used to go there alot and then the management changed and they got NASTY and then portions got smaller and more expensive
whats that about??
maybe we should be organizing some sort of indian night? or maybe i should :D
namaste
