Just had my first Wagamama experience in Leicester Square in London on a recommendation from a friend - not bad! Yes, service was slow, and the seating plan of long tables and benches, sitting elbow to elbow with strangers was a bit strange, but the food was worth it! Had some noodle, shrimp, veg combo-thing and was quite happy! I'm in for the experience when it comes to Istanbul - heck, any new restaurant is exciting!!

so that you can spend money on furniture and sitting next to people you don't know while eating a product that costs less then 1/10 of what you actually payd.

why wouldn't you go there?

Post oodles of noodles
I went to the original Wagamama in London (I think it was the location close to the British Museum is) and it was good. I tried it again later when they opened a branch on Kensington High Street (my former 'hood) but it wasn't that great. May try this one this summer although I'm sure I will have my bean noodles and spice before I go to Turkey. I always eat the Asian food I will miss before I leave SF.

Good to know there are more options sprouting in Istanbul though when it comes to Asian fare.

Wagamama is basically a restaurant that serves "Japanese" food in the style of a noodle bar. According to their website, their ethos is:

'to serve great, fresh and nutritious food in an elegant, yet simple environment. to provide a helpful, friendly service and value for money'

The first ever Wagamama is in Streatham St. (been there) which opened in 1992. It's now a chain (you can own a francise too if you want) with branches in Dublin, Australia, Dubai, Antwerp. I don't know about elegant...usually you sit in a long table (communal sitting) while eating bowls of noodles in piping hot broth or other versions of it. Not bad though. If the people who brought it to Istanbul make enough effort to bring in authentic ingredients and be able to keep the prices resonably low, it just might be a hit.

The meaning of wagamama in Japanese is selfish. Ain't that interesting?

communal sitting, long table, hot broth and to top it off, starting in a place named after Streatham! I think I will stick to greasy gokhans kebab van.
