Why dont you try Yakup 2 in Tunel, or Haci Baba thats serves traditional food.
I always take my quests to Hamdi, for the view or Asithane a bit further away.

Haci Baba has lots of veg-head food. Entrance is across from the French Consul. Hamdi is great, but doesn't have much for non meat eaters.

Yakup2 is in the same street as Nexus, just walk about 20 meters and it's on the left.

Not on the menu at Hamdi, but I will make a special trip over there for their 'vegetable kebap' (just tell them you don't eat meat). Basically they fire-roast a bunch of veggies such as pepper, eggplant, tomato, onion, etc, and then puree and serve it with delicious breads. They have nice salads, mezes (their acili ezme is one of the best in town - made with fresh tomatoes instead of tomato paste) and serve alcohol. Service is always impeccable and the prices are quite reasonable.

Of course you might not want to be at a restaurant with a group where there is only 1 thing available for vegetarians, but I suggest you try the veggie kebap at a future opportunity, banana. Incidentally, many otherwise meaty-looking places will go above & beyond to accomodate vegetarians. The Köşebaşı in Fenerbahçe also serves a mean veggie kebap.

Yakup & Yakup2 are both meyhanes with traditional meyhane fare.

so would you suggest the yakup place?

Definitely mezes & fish, you should be able to find kebaps but you better call to check.

Anytime you are heading to a meyhane with a group, I highly suggest finding a place with a fixed menu. Random things have a way of turning up on your bill otherwise. Expect to pay 40-55 YTL per person on a fixed menu and inquire whether the alcohol is limited or limitless.

For visitors, it is nice if the place has fasıl music as well so they can experience the real meyhane atmosphere. I was at Yakup on a random weeknight so I'm not sure if they have music on the weekend evenings.

Do wet burgers count as Turkish food? Always satisfying at 4AM when insensate from alcohol abuse. Nothing like bright lights and grease.

Take them to ""Hacı Abdullah Lokantası" for good and various kind of Turkish-Ottoman food of all kind,

And then make them take you to somewhere for a drink, as they do not serve alcohol

You ll definetely be pleased with the food and service, better than Hacı Baba for sure

In Sakızağacı caddesi, next to Ağacami on İstiklal(4th right maybe from Taksim)

check their site and menu:
http://www.haciabdullah.com.tr/menu.htm

m hungry, too

Have you been to Aga (A?a) Lokantasi --- its on the small street across from the mosque. We're always going there with my Turkish coworkers for lunch. Great fresh food & lots of variety - something different every day
