where should i take my foody parents??
Hi
I have been cruising through the restaurant review threads - I am really trying to get some suggestions for where to take my parents when they are in town this month
They are here for several weeks - and they like to eat good food - any kind - as long as its interesting and yummy
so i wrote down OTTO
and LOKAL is an option at some point maybe
but anyone else have any other suggestions? last time they were here I took them to Hai Sushi, Ciya... and some fish place - can't remember.. grr, for Indian of course and to Zengifil - the veggie place
I am looking for a good suggestion for a turkish place, a good place to get MEAT (my dads a bit of a carnivour!)... and just any place else that you recommend. It has to be easy to get to (dolmus or walking) - so sultanhamet, beyogulu, tunel, nistantisi, moda, caddebostan - am thinking of taking them to bebek some day - any suggestions over there would be good too then!
thanks for your help - i hate dragging out the lonely planet guide to look for somewhere interesting to eat!
where is that korean restaurant again?? how do i get there?

Better places than Park Fora around. I would suggest any of the Devili places - good meat houses and in Kalimis marina they also do amazing fish - right on the waters edge. Kosebase also has great meat, in fact Conde Nast Traveller magazine rates them in top 50 restaurants in the world.
For fish- Bebek Balikci - through the back in the conservatory tright on the water, you can feel the waves underneath you.
Lokal and Pera Thai in Tunel are great for Thai, and Vogue (great views) and Sunset (great views)are great for Sushi but great all round.
Im still getting to know places myself, so other people probably have better ideas. Musulko mentioned another great meat place in Sultanahmet, Hamdi, also with superb views and half the price of Kosebase.

I second Hamdi. Service is excellent, the terrace lovely & prices shockingly reasonable.
I have heard many Turks say that it is the first place they bring their foreign guests.
However, Hamdi is not in Sultanahmet, it is in Eminönü right across the street from the bus station.

Develi in Kalamış is yummy but not for the light-walleted. From Kadıköy you should take the Bostancı Sahil Yolu dolmuş. Tell the driver you are going to 'Kalamış Yat Limanı' and walk down from the Sahil Yolu. Enter the liman where you see a small Migros. Or just take a taxi - if you are 3 people the difference is less than 1 YTL & you won't have to walk at all.
There is also a Köşebaşı in Fenerbahçe in a restored köşk.

thats more like it!! thanks so much...
I was just chatting with my mom on MSN and lamenting that i appear to know the yummy veggie places around the city and more than often, which of the locals has the best corba
but i dont go out to really nice restaurants enough to know which are good. (which is weird bc in seoul I always checked out the new and fab places. hmmm)
to which my mother replied
"you need to start dating an entirely different class of men!"
haha ... well DUH.. I am aware of this myself but....
anyways
love her
can't wait to have her here!!

Good old mum! The only thing worse than not dating anyone, not having an expense account (or not having a rich daddy to support you until he marries you off) is dating someone who doesn't actually go anywhere!
Can recommend good lunch/dinner places if you are in the area - no wow factor but decent grub.
e.g. Pars the Iranian place next to Pera Palace is interesting! Carnival in the next street (free floating menu - pick what is good on the day) and Nefle (round the corner from Otto).
