Dear All, I haven't been on the forum much lately for good reason... Have been busy launching my first book (actually an anthology I co-edited along with Anastasia Ashman). It's a collection of true stories by foreign women who have lived in Turkey. In fact, you may personally know alot of the contributors (besides me, yani)... TALES FROM THE EXPAT HAREM and its Turkish translation TURKCE SEVMEK are both on the bookstore shelves now, also available online. You can find out more about it here: http://www.expatharem.com Would love to have any and all of you join us at some of our events such as.... --TOMMORROW --8 October 2005, 17:00 - MAVI KUM Bookstore, Cihangir, Istanbul Mavi Kum Kitabevi, a stylish new bookshop in Cihangir with a formidable collection of cultural books on the Mediterranean region, will host EXPAT HAREM editors and some of the Istanbul-based contributors for a late afternoon reading, discussion and book signing event on Saturday October 8, 17:00. A most excellent book. Having spent 15 years here in Turkey myself - it really brought home all the stumbling blocks that us yabancis sometime come across and can at times be removed. I also reminded me just why I am still here!!! which on occaisions needs to be done.
Many thanks to all of you who contributed.

The book has actually become quite famous--I heard some people at my company chatting about it in Turkish in the lunch line the other day. Nice work!

Thanks everyone! The event yesterday was great. Completely crowded, mostly a Turkish audience. After the reading the store sold out of every copy they had, including the ones in the display window. FD, yes, we will be starting events in Ankara, Fethiye, and other places. Some expats and Turks from Bilkent asked us to come down to Ankara, so we're starting to set dates (obviously it will be a weekend). The Fethiye newspaper (LAnd of Lights) will arrange something for us there as well. I will certainly keep everyone updated. And thanks to everyone for their support!

Jen, try contacting Fethiye Times, it's an online publication down there that seems pretty popular. Can also give you some forum details if you want to publicise it online. PM me. JF

I'd like to go to the Nov.12 reading but can't quite figure out where it is (I don't know the European/Taksim side of Istanbul very well). Would anyone who was planning on going like to meet me at a ferry terminal or another well-known landmark to go to the Wine House together? I also plan on heading to the Ladies' Night afterwards (and ditto for knowing where that is)!

If you want you can write me from oneoutofsixbillion@gmail.com In case you can't find me, there is a small map of the place in this address; http://www.badebutik.com/bizeulasin.htmBut unfortunately, i can't help you with "girls night out".
