Post This is just the book for JC
Lamb : The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal
by Christopher Moore

I may have posted about this book before, but it's worth repeating. Very funny read. I defy anyone to read it without laughing out loud. Many times. Unless, of course, the whole topic offends you.

It can be found in TURKISH as well ("Kuzu"), which I have. I've reread the original a few times, so I figure reading it in Turkish will be a good exercise...assuming the translation is any good.

That book looks hilarious -- I'll have to order it from Amazon! :D "The Master and Marguerita" was bizarre -- have you read it?

Sadie, the Master and Margharita is wonderful- one of my favourite books! For creativity combined with linguistic skill you can't get much better (even in translation!).

JC most approves of Bulgakov's rewording of the pontius pilate scene as well as some of the wonderful surreal and satirical riffs such as the Devil becoming a theatre impressario and the description of the flight of Margharita. Given the

Given the circumstances in which the book was of the book was written it is a wonderful testament to the the human imagination; rather like the way that La Vita e Bella there is surreal humour within a concentration camp. :D

Polly, your recommendation would be a great gift for my vertically challenged theologian ex-housemate, Titch (a man who professes to be constantantly aware of Nietzche's Fall but tends to get very excited when England are playing sporting events).

Does JC always refer to itself as "JC"? Does JC use the royal "we", also? :D Do you like Kharms? "The Old Woman" is online if anyone wants to read it: http://www.other.spb.ru/oldwoman.html

Using the royal We is ok for JC as long as humanity and love exists (which fortunately they do). Indeed, M&M brilliantly humanises Jesus through the Pilate scene and then deifys humanity through a wonderful use of imagination.

"Who told you there was no such thing as real, true, eternal love? Cut out his lying tongue!"
--Mikhail Bulgakov* (1891 - 1940), Russian novelist and playwright. From The Master and Margarita (Michael Glenny, tr.).

Never heard of Kharms until now but look forward to sampling some more. I do like Russian literature though, beats Pride and Prejudice any day of the week.

For those who (like me) though who the feck is Kharms:

I dont have a problem P. I can do that not giving more than 30 minutes a week actually. so I cant think of anyone who will spend an entire month doing it. that is underestimating one's capabilities, I'd say.

if u are going to tell me some do, I'd say they have too much money to spend to inefficient staff. thats why all their money is stacked in piles of printed and not sold books in their warehouses.
