Post Altinkum
...or however you spell it!

I'm down there in August (9-12 prob).

What's it like?
Is it big or small?
Full of Brits and their bellies?
Any recommendations for a cheap hotel (in case I get kicked out of my mate's)
Where's the nearest airport? Bodrum?

See - I don't have a clue!! :D

Oh but if any of you lot are around, we should go out on the lag!

Oh and if I wanted to do an Istanbul - Datça - Altinkum - Istanbul round trip - what's the best way? Bus?

Thanks geezers!

it's in Didim, I think they were trying to change the name to something more British a while back, like; Winchester.
don't know why they wanted Winchester though.

Charly- Ist-Datça is 14 hours by bus (Pammukale / Metro / Kamil Koç) direct to town centre. If you fly to Dalaman it is of course an hour. However you have to get from Dalaman to Marmaris (Havaş) which is 2 1/2 hours and Marmaris to Datça; another hour. Your choice but flights may be difficult to find high season.

Didim / Altinkum is really a British enclave so much so that water bills are now being printed in English! Somehow I just don't think it's you but then again after a few voddy's I'm sure you would fit in nicely. Nice beach though.

Altinkum is not my choice - meeting a UK visitor there. Then maybe an Irish one in Kusadasi! I hear that's a cultural experience.
Cnidus looks interesting for me.

Just starting the research but......

If I:
Flew Istanbul - Bodrum
Ferry to Datca side
Ferry back over to Bodrum
Bus to Didim
Maybe bus to Kusadasi
Bus to Bodrum and flight out

................Does that work?

Whilst we were at our Summer house in Akbuk we visited Altinkum, only to leave 10mins after getting there. Totally agree with Clive re his comments, although I think they were only talking about printing the utility bills in English.

Boyfriend can stay in Istanbul with his motor - I'm off to tourist hell aka Altinkum.
My mate arrived from the UK yesterday and as I haven't heard anything yet, I can only assume that she is in shock.
Not sure about how to get to the place from Bodrum airport but I'm sure I'll figure it out.

See you lot at the boat party on Saturday!
Starman - make sure there's plenty of Smirnoff --- Apple Smirnoff is the current favourite!

:D

Look for a bus or try and bum a lift with the tours that will be going there. A taxi will set you back around 150 TL, as its about an hours drive

Altinkum?
Hated it.
Wanted to take my mate to a meyhane.............they don't exist.
Went out to the coast of bars - full of very young Turks and very young British tourists.
Had 16-year olds hitting on me, bars were trashy and smelt of sick.

Didim?
Hated it.
Seems to actually be Altinkum. Glad I can get by in Turkish as I had to use a few words.

Bodrum centre?
Hated it.
But that was because some waiter shoved me from behind and my mate got too drunk to go to Türbükü (sp).

So a positive holiday experience for me! I was so frigging bored. Things you do for your friends! I didn't even want to drink as the atmosphere was schite. Of course I did though. Didn't help. When things are so bad you don’t want to get drunk and look like the other twats. It just felt dirty. Yuk.

The best bit was leaving Didim to stay with my mate in his house in Güvercinlik and not drowning as I hauled my bum from boat to boat. He saved the day for sure. That little bay is beautiful with the sea and the forests.
:D
