An employee of Maki hotel told me that in early September, the whole hotel was taken over by a Russian group who were there for "business" and apparently, pleasure. Each male guest was accompanied by a 6-foot Russian girl who didn't quite look like the 'babushka' or wife. Apparently, the men were big spenders and gave each hotel employee US$100/a day for tips for their 3-day stay there. Allegedly, a huge amount of money was paid to Maki Hotel for booking the entire place exclusively for these Russians. But did Maki owners pay their employees fairly? No! They were aware of the tips so they only paid the workers less than half of what they promised in terms of their negotiated salaries even if they worked the entire summer season which is a 7-week stint for most of them. That is just appalling!

I am so glad I was out of there when this happened. In fact, the Turkbuku goers and homeowners who were there for the 5-week height of the summer season were long gone. I don't know if they are even aware such things happen there. Maki basically transformed into a seaside brothel for 3 days.

At least they took over the entire hotel! I'm not sure if I would rather be surrounded by guys on a sex tourism jolly with decent looking ladies, or a bunch of Waynetters from the UK getting it on with local lads.
The Russian guys tip well and flash their cash, pick and choose who they want and generally get on with it.
The British ladies fill up the dodgy shots, flash their breasts, pick up anything that'll have 'em and generally get it on!

it works both ways! The ladies who want young meat and cannot have it at home come to TR beaches and here they always have some dark, hairy guy for them...

And I agree with charly that at least these Russians made it with style...

Ha ha ha Charly! You too? I'm an American girl who has been shown the bar menu more times than I cared to look.

I suppose confident barmen play their game and test their 'marketability' skills by offering more than a drink to a girl they fancy. It's too easy. The smart ones learn English, Spanish or Russian. If they think they can get on with some visiting foreigner girl, they will sure try. What can they lose if there's a willing victim? They can get another job at another bar later on and repeat the whole MO. Some who have girlfriends have been known to cheat too.

One bartender tried to pick me up in Salopet, Turkbuku in 2003. He's cute but too boyish and didn't speak any English. I was not interested. Another one tried in another bar and he spoke good English. I was flattered. My friend and I got many free drinks but still, I snobbed him. He asked later if I was a Lesbian since I am there with a girl friend. Ha ha ha. That was funny!

Yes, I was there then with a gorgeous girl friend who just broke up with her boyfriend so I took her to Turkey to chill, take a break. Sure we were looking at the menu but not partaking of Turkish dishes or whatever else was the 'catch of the day' We hung out together for 5 days in Turkbuku and a few days in Cesme with our former San Francisco-based Turkish friends. Happy hour was good though.

So where are the cute bartenders these days?

I think once you've seen one, you've seen them all! Indulge if you want a bit of fun but don't expect commitment or faithfulness...and if you want free drinks, DON'T SLEEP WITH THEM! Of course this game has a limited time period but it works! Free tickets, free drinks, free rides ;o)

I spoke with a few of them who actually admit to have fallen in love with their barstool occupants. It clearly isn't love in the real sense and must be some kind of a holiday affliction.

I have stayed away from Marmaris for reasons cited above but I head from a Turkish acquaintance that it's really beautiful threre and he is considering buying a house there. I might go to Gocek in July and stop by there. It's pretty near I think.
