Just for you CH, here is an earlier post on Afrodisias (which I would definitely recommend you going to see if you are near to Ephesus)
"Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. Efes is the place that all the books point you (and the library is fantastic) but this place is just so much better (if you like scrambiling around Roman ruins, that is). Much better layout; beautiful setting in amongst snow-capped mountains; museum on site with wonderfully preserved statues; and eye poppingly beautiful (and well preserved) stadium, town hall and theatre. Will be reporting this to Tom Brosnan's travel planner.
Can also recommend the beautiful village of Serince (just the drive there from Selcuk is worth it) and the Hotel Kalehan in Selcuk. The hotel will be particually nice in summer when the roses in the garden are out and the swimming pool is full but, in winter, chestnuts and tavla by the fire more than compensated. Also has good organic restaurant."
To your specific point, I would definitely recommend the Hotal Kalehan. It is not too pricey but is a wonderful place to stay.

okokok i stayed at Artemis Guest House AKA Jimmy's Place for a week in dec2004 and spent about 90ytl on single ensuite and meals - rates have changed of course but it's still reasonable - i especially liked the terrace restaurant
everyone working\hanging out there was friendly and helpful; i've since sent cousins and friends there as well and they seemed to love the place

if i went back to the area, i'd probably stay in sirince though - maybe a place like:

hi ch,
I've stayed several times ay ANZ guest house in Selcuk; they include two huge meals per day on a rooftop terrace (closed and open to suit the weather)and decent rooms. I guess I like it though 'cos the guys who run it grew up in Melbourne and they have very broad Aussie accents (much more so than I do) .
AND there is a rfnny story attached to it - their father , who had emigrated to Australuia in the '60's, came back after a few years and bought the house (which is now the pension) for 150,000 lira which, when I stayed there 3 or 4 years ago was the price of a loaf of Turkish bread......
BTW:::: What exactly is behind you???!!!

 Loved Nisanyan House in Sirince
Hi Ch,
I know it's not Selcuk, but it's close- and we were amazed. It's called Nisanyan House (you can google it), and it's located in Sirince, a quaint little mountain village about 20 km from Ephesus. It's very easy to come and go from the ruins, but this boutique cottage is still relatively remote and
doesn't attract too many tourists. The website doesn't do it justice. The rooms are gorgeous, the staff absolutely wonderful and the setting is spectacular!
BTW- they also have a restaurant they takes bookings from the city.
