I take back my comments about Hisaronu (Ovacik) being twinned with Hackney. Apparently Hackney residents got upset with me after coming out with a comment of the being associated with such a shit hole.

Yes it is a ghetto. Calis needs to return to its rightful and original habitants which have been so ethnically cleansed by the Brits.

Post Future of Kalkan
First, we Kalkaners count our blessings that we do live very far from any anyport, and yes, some tour operators have declined to come here saying it was too far.

And the new, wide road will bypass the dangerous curves of Yesilkoy and take traffic along the a sea route, bringing it into Kalkan near the petrol station. We don't anticipate this will increase the number of tourists, just make the arrival a bit smoother, hopefully.

As for upscale, there are now several homes here ranging from GBP 200.000 - 1.000.000.

I must say Kalkan has always been one of my favourite places on the south and not too touristy. I am not surprised with the real estate prices there.

Post Tourists vs Residents
Forgot to add that businesses in Kalkan are suffering as the local population goes from being tourists to residents. Residents eat at home and don't buy tourist trinkets. Several local businesses have closed, as have several restaurants and hotels. No loss as we had too many of them anyway.

I'm not surprised that there are not too many tourists either, as we found it entirely dull.

The only thing to do is to leave the town and go visit some of the nearby places. Admittedly we did have a good time visiting the gorge at Saklikent, which was fabulous especially trying to cross the river with a 5 month pregnant woman.

The sunken city, the other side of Kas was disappointing but the fact that we were on our own for the day going up and down the river / lake more than made up for it.

Patara was also nice, although the sea was boring, no decent waves for bodysurfing and also no decent transport links. That and they were ripping off tourists entering the site was off putting.

We came back a few days early because of unexpected committments and we didn't mind too much as there wasn't a lot else to do.

Keeps everything a little more traditional and more like Turkey instead of Blackpool which cant be said for other certain resorts I wont mention.
