Sm, totally believeable especially as when coming from there one can extremely easily veer onto the road that goes almost directly to Emirgan just after Bahcekoy, hence avoiding all of the main roads, etc and is in any case a totally different direction (although admittedly one could then access the new TEM access road, cut through there into the heart of Etiler......then again in any sort of rush hour traffic, whch around the bridges is much of the day, you'll get bogged down going into Etiler. I also suppose that one could alternatively cut their was through Armutlu and even Fatih Sultan Mehmet Mahallasi, however the windy crappy roads are a turnoff.
Actually Dave, you had said above TO ETILER, not from, and I was of course referring to the most obvious and popular time when most human beings would be going to/fr Etiler from Demircikoy, Zekeriyakoy, etc, which of course would be out in the morning, back in the afternoon. I do know three or four alternative back roads, unfortunately 1-2 of them are not accessible at the moment due to various constructions, another one has less traffic, but of course is twice the distance (which is the one I believe you are referring to). There is another one, but can also be quite choked at times.

Petrol, you stopped for petrol. You are not grossly overweight and do not wear plaid trousers.

Demirkoy is one of those few places near Istanbul where people tie up there donkeys and / or sheep before entering the bank.

Bank? No banks here, a couple of shops is all. People keep their money in their beards. The women too.
TP, 28 mins from home to Akatlar today, in a car.
