Post Dog Breeders
Does anyone know of a reputable place to get a purebred Labrador? Would it be better just to bring one in from the UK or the US?
Thanks.

Post Pet site/ DASCHUNDS
Hi mavigozler,

I love dogs too and am missing my Black Lab terribly. She's back home with my parents.
Am looking around for a dog. Particularly DASCHUNDS.
Haven't seen any at all here. Anyone know please PM me.

Came across this website (it's in Turkish though, so can't understand)
But they seem to have Labrador pups for sale there:

http://www.pasteurkem.com/?gclid=CLu22p ... Ggod8Vuizg

Saw some dogs in cages at the animal market next to the Spice Bazaar.
But sad to say the dogs there don't look so healthy.

There are also lots of dogs up for adoption at the Yedikule Animal Shelter.
Many of them are mutts though, but I did see some with a lot of Labrador in them.

Also another thing to consider is whatever dog you get here, it'll be quite traumatising for your pet if you bring the dog back to UK (if that's where your next destination is) Because there will be at least 6 months quarrantine.

Certainly this was the case but is that true for today? given the schemes available in terms of pet passports, tracking devices etc. can this not be avoided?

If you want to take an animal into the EU and the country i.e. Turkey is not part of the PETS scheme then the quarantine is unavoidable. I would say this is a big argument for buying a dog in the UK, getting the pet passport and then bringing it to Turkey.

The pet store in Akmerkez has a pretty good selection of pure breed animals for sale but as you can be sure they come from intensive puppy farms you may want to consider not giving them your cash.

GB,

Yes you're right. Chipping and pet passports make it easier to bring dogs into UK, but ONLY IF the animal comes from a list of rabies free countries.
And since Turkey is still not rabies free, the 6 month quarantine still applies.

Here's the list of approved countries outside of the EU.

Thanks for all the advice. I'll be sure to follow up on these leads. Luckily, I don't have to worry about taking the dog into the EU. If it goes anywhere, it will be back to the US.
