 emerging artists in Istanbul?
I was wondering if anyone knew of sources for works by emerging/new Turkish artists in Istanbul. My main interest would be paintings (oil, acrylic). Looking to buy some 'value' art by, perhaps, art students to help decorate a flat. Possibly galleries specializing in new artists or art school exhibitions. Anyone plugged into the art scene?

There's a coffee shop in Sultanahmet which features a new artist every month--mainly Turkish. It's a really lovely place with great coffee and chic sort of vibe. You should check it out! It's right by the Arasta Bazaar...but anyone in that area would be able to point you in the right direction. The name's Java Studio. Ask for Jennifer (the owner)--she's lovely as well.

There's another guy in Sultanahmet that has a big gallery of his own work - 2nd floor just on the main tramline, as the tram turns the corner just before stopping at Gulhane Park stop coming from Eminonu. A friend of mine really likes his stuff and always buys a painting from him when here. Can't remember his name but he has a long beard and moustache and also runs art classes for Turkish students in a studio in Fener/Balat, so his students could be interesting for you too.
