I miss them. However, I thought about the situation of some of the poor folks here and it's better to give it to them than trying to make a couple lira. It was just fun hunting for bargains...

I gather yard sales and the like are not something people do here. People in the US would set out perfectly good appliances for anyone to take; it seems to me they generally don't throw anything out here until you really wouldn't want to 'rescue' it, but that's just my limited observation from my neighborhood. If anyone knows something different, I'm here to learn...

There are a couple of places in Taksim where you can find vintage clothes, if that's what you're into. I forget the name of the shop I went into, but you go into a passage and then it's down in the basement. I thought I had come back to Greenwich Village for a minute.

Yes people will hold onto them or take out of the useful bits and pieces and sell them to the scrap men pushing the wooden carts round the streets. If they are going to give something away i think they would more likely give it family than just put it out for random strangers, apart from old furniture which they commonly leave in communal hallways of apartment buildings.
