 noisy neighbours
anyone know if there is a law against loud music at night/early morning (3am etc...) Is there a set time when the law says there should be no loud music like in other countries or am I just dreaming?

Good luck to you... Even if there is a law about this I'm not really sure the police will do something... You should probably talk to your neighbours...

Thanks - we already talked to them but they don't see a problem - they reckon that we shouldn't have decided to live in an apt but should have chosen a villa where we would have peace and quiet at 3am!!

Guess they are right, from my experience with neighbours. Police wouldn't help, so either move away or get some of these:

red fire,
talk to the owner of the flat/building and to the emlak who helped you find it.
This would normally work much better than talking to the neighbours directly. Not that I uinderstand why, but it does.

guess we're screwed as can't use ear plugs as we have kids that may need us during night! and they are not renting their apt but own it! so our policy was to wake them up early this morning with very loud music, banging doors etc.. - early being 8am (they get up at 2pm!) very childish I know.

Dear red fire, this sounds a litte aggressive from your side. May I quote from the Torah (Leviticus 19:18):
"Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself: I am the lord."
What is usually being done in Germany is to cut the rent, so that your landlord has to handle the issue. Have done it in Turkey as well and it does help.

Aren't loud noises at 8 in the morning waking people up the normal behavior of children, sounds like a useful role for them in your fight.

You're not living in Ataşehir by any chance are you? Is the music Nine Inch Nails / Tool? Are pizza delivery guys a regular sight? If so, be afraid. Be very afraid.....

so mr. starman, i guess you must be red fire's neighbour then. please return hard drive to atasehir where it belongs (and before atasehir goes into total depression) and then red fire can sleep again.

Patience. Karma will solve all your problems. When I lived in Kuledibi, my evil noisy downstairs neighbour ignored all my complaints/pleas for quiet. Two months after I moved out, she was arrested for cocaine and made loads of headlines. How I laughed!

No, the better way is to arrange to start sending them seperatist Kurdish literature from abroad through the post, then anonymously inform on them.
