Post produce prices
oddest inversion of prices I've seen in awhile... all the "usual" produce was exorbitantly price and the cheapest per kilo prices on the stall were LIMES for 1.50 a kilo and KIWI which were 2 per kilo. Used to be those were the MOST expensive...

Sometimes Migros at Capitol and Tepe Nautulus Carrefour have limes, though they are quite pricy. I think next time i go to the states i may bring back one of those little cheezy plastic bottles of lime concentrate... the ones chaped like a little lime, y'know?

I have friends bring bags of limes from the UK, then juice them and freeze the juice in ice trays. So much better than those lime bottles. :o

I dont understand the diffrence between leman and limes. Why does one would use the lime rather than leman? In which ocassion lemon could replace the lime?

Lime goes great with corona beer as to a lemon ..so they say..
personally never found much of a difference...
maybe cause we dont see it often we tend to make it a big deal...

I find that limes are less sharp/acidic than lemons, therefore better for drinks and some dishes...and of course they smell different.
I've bought limes here, which don't seem to be as subtle as imported limes (because they're lemons :D ) for around YTL0.50 each in packs from supermarkets. YTL1-1.50 can buy you a Brazilian lime from markets/shops.
As with anything, there are variations.

Wiki of course lists the varieties. The use of the lime in Persian cooking is interesting for this area. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lime_%28fruit%29

As a titbit: I was reading about the Chinese green lemon, used for sushi, too. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meyer_Lemon

I prefer limes in my Bloody Mary and Rum and Coke, it's a matter of preference and there is a difference in taste --- lemons pucker your mouth a lot whereas limes not as much and there is a very slight bitterness to limes. (question: celery sold at Tansas is expensive and not as meaty as the ones I love. Anyone come across fat and juicy celery stalks ?) Not to mention Tom Yum soup which only tastes right if you use lime. Never thought of freezing the juice... good idea !

You're forgiven. But only because we're having fajitas soaked in lime juice and peppers tonight.
