 Projects of Istanbul
Diamond Of Istanbul +270m
It is still under construction and fcuk knows if it would improve the Maslak traffic.
Garden Life Plaza (Torunlar Tower) +160m
Construction will start this year. It will be a new design and contempt for Istanbul. The architect is Hadi Teherani and his BRT Architekten- office

MASHATTAN (Maslak) 10 tower and probably the most stupid name for a project
Was called the Sapphire Tower but now renamed to Kiler tower after the cheap nasty supermarkets. Now on its 14th floor.
Now just waiting for some cash transfers from Dubai and the dumb ass chamber of architects to stop pissing around with court cases claiming it would ruin the Bosphorus skyline. Should be around 370 meters if completed.

Dubai towers = canceled. (as it should)
Kiler Tower = Won an award, already.
Diamonds = Gorgeous.
Mashatten = Wank.
Garden Life = Gorgeous.
Atakoy Tourism complex = so so
Gehry's Istanbul Museum (proposed) = fcuk yeah!
Buyaka Umraniye = booyaka! (quite decent, actually)
Good topic, by the way.

Istanbul is becoming an experimental playground for talentless architects ( like Beijing and Kuala Lumpa etc.) Bring it on, build more stuff like this.
Where is the plan for the increase in traffic ? Er .... there isn't one.
The place is fcuked... unfortunately

it's already bad because of all those road constructions going on. It took me 45 minutes to go to Tarabya from Maslak the other day!!

love the way the website shows about 4 cars trundling past the 3d model. Is this a forecast?

Being an architect, I prefer Istanbul as a playground of talentless architects rather than the dump of clueless, visionless, miser small-time contractors.
I would not be surprised to hear that H&M is not opening, for I know from a reliable source that H&M has a policy of not opening stores in countries where they have production. OR, it may be that Istinye Park has already postponed its opening date a full month, and the whole complex is nowhere near completion, and H&M is pissed.
And the 3d model where 4 cars are trundling past, is not from a project. It is from the storyboard of 28 days later.
There!

Starman thanks for the nice post.
Sillibug, as another architect I agree with your comments about the contracters but remember the most influencial party in an project is the client. With an unimaginative client a project can not get far. In fact, the best projects are those with 'visionary clients' combined with a capable project team.
I think the biggest problem in Maslak is urban planning; the quality of experience is dreadful on streetlevel. nowhere to walk, sit or socialize on street. One skyscraper going up after another but it looks like a dump wıth a few buildings
in it.
A well known Turkish architect that I used to work for said that like the nomad's tent, the Turk's aparment is spotless inside but when the environment outsided is dirtied, they just pick up there tents and move on.

Interesting observation. I have been wondering for some time already, whether Istanbul is male or female.

Quote: istanbul yasli bir fahisedir sadece. çirkin ve kirlidir. dokunmak istemezsin. köse bucak kaçarsin ama hep oralarda biyerdedir. ancak gece olup, güzel bir elbise ve makyajla geldiinde, içinden gelen seylere yenik düsersin. herseyinle onun olursun çünkü 'güzel'dir. asik olunasidir. sabah kalktiginda pismanlik kalir geriye. dün gece naaptim ben diye düsünürsün. ama aksam sehir seni nasil tavlayacagini bilir. sen de nasil tavlanacagini.

Totally agree yakamoz.
I guess because the cliens are being rather 'talentles' and lousy at being clients that the works of only the talentless architects end up being appreciated and commisioned.
Istanbul is female? What the hell all the women are doing staying here captivated then?
