Post Public swimming pools
The public pools here near Maltepe are truly a pain ... Some of them are only accepting people willing to pay a YEAR membership, others only accept couples, ... It is incredible how hard it can be for a single man to just find a good place to swim. Only accepting couples IMO is a joke. As if female company would stop men from looking at other women, or as if every single man entering the pool would shamelessly stare at the female guests... Complete joke if you ask me.

Does anyone know a good swimming pool near Maltepe where I can go swimming on my own ?? The closest pool only accepts couples so I am still looking for a good pool where I am welcome on my own. During weekends and preferably but not necessarily with late opening hours.

Thanks in advance.

Try the sea.

In Last Thursday's edition of the TDN there was a review of quite a few pools around Istanbul, you might be able to find it on their website.

:) Tried that a lot of times and indeed, no rules and no restrictions :D No one to tell me not to look at the women. Why is it so bad anyway to look at a woman? Eyes are made for staring with and beauty is made to be observed.

Was Idealtepe Spor Kulübü one of the places you inquired at, gerrit? It is located between Bostancı and Maltepe right on the seaside road (and next to the Idealtepe train station). I seem to remember calling them a few years back and found that you could get daily entrance at the times/days when lessons were not going on at their pool. Their number is: (0216) 3055705 – (0216) 4598281

Idealtepe SK also requires to be in couple. I must really search a girlfriend I see

True Blue accepts singles but is not very conveniently located from Maltepe and without car. Tekel also accepts single people coming in (Monday it is closed though and Tuesday is women only) and is already a bit easier to get to as it is only a fiver per taxi.

Fenerbahce-Maltepe without a car is easy-peasy (I used to travel the route several times weekly).

Take the train from Maltepe to Feneryolu (18 minutes) then walk straight toward the sea (passing Bagdat and the Sahil Yolu) until you reach Fenerbahce Park and True Blue. It's about a 10 minute walk from Feneryolu train station.

Sorry, I should have mentioned the train in my previous post.

Anyone knows a good swimming pool with a roof? the pools I've been using for now are all outdoors, but it gets a bit cold or fresh for outdoor swimming. Anyone knows a good indoor pool? I heard there is one in Kadikoy-Moda but I am not sure where it is, and also I am not sure if there is one closer to Maltepe or not.

I know of one indoor pool that's meant to be quite good....but it's in Kozyatagı, the pool of a private high school but apparently they have for-adults-hours in the evenings and possibly on the week-ends.....

Kozyagati would be excellent as I work there and could go swimming after work during the evenings. Can you let me know the address of that pool?

Post cevre school pool
ah, that's next to me! here's some info from the 2006-2007 school year:

*the work week hours are 8 - 9:30 in mornings, 17 - 21:30 in evenings
*weekend hours are 10:00 - 20:00

*rates for swimming pass are:
-1 month - 170ytl
-3 months - 450ytl
-6 months - 800ytl
-1 year - 1500ytl

*there is also a fitness club with different rates; you can join one or the other or even both (for both, for example, it's 220ytl for 1 month - again, rates decrease if you sign on for more months)

address is Tuccarbasi Sk 4, Erenkoy (go to the security guys and they'll give you a visitor's pass in exchange for your ID)
