within the set up page of the modem you do need to tell it which adsl it is to connect to. For instance with a US robotics modem that we have, you had to enter the country and then tell it which protocol to adopt; in our case it was Turk Telecom "PPPoE".

it will be either PPPoE or PPPoA and the encapsulation would be VCMUX or LLC.
Try all four of them.

I've called 444 0375 before, and spoken to someone in English. He didn't understand me so I shouted very loudly.
Kidding, they didn't understand me and I got whatever it was sorted out.

We had a similar issue with Superonline, as part of the deal they provided a USR modem. Despite all the settings being correct the modem failed to work, luckily for us though we had another modem that magically worked.
So we sent the modem back, they in turn sent it back to us saying there was nothing wrong with it, we sent it back 2 more times until they finally admitted the modem was faulty and then they replaced it with one that worked!
Perseverance in the end does work!
