Post Synagogues/temples in Istanbul
I'm not Jewish, but Judaism is my religious preference by choice...conservative or reform. I read an old article about a synagogue in or near Ulus, but I don't know if the place is still there? If so, could someone please give me the location? If it's a sensitive subject, please PM me. I would like to attend this summer...also, a stab in the dark, but an Unitarian services in Istanbul? Thanks so much!

Briget

Might also want to stroll over to the Balat neighborhood. It was the most populous Jewish neighborhood in Istanbul the Ottoman period and has a number of fine synagogues, the most notable being the Ahrida Synagogue. The synagogue is one of the oldest in Istanbul, and was restored in the 80's. It boasts a superb Teva (Bima) in the shape of a ship's prow. You need to secure permission from the Chief Rabbinate (located in Beyoglu) to visit it though...
Cheers,
Bengu

Thanks! I will have Jewish friends visiting me this summer and perhaps that would be the best time to secure permission to visit! They would want to see it as well.
