 Teaching English in Istanbul?
Hello, I am a college student in Montana, United States. I have experience teaching ESL to children in Venezuela, Guatemala and in U.S.A. I am planning an extended stay (more than two months) in Istanbul the beginning of 2008. Does anyone know about any opportunities with teaching ESL without a degree? I am interested in tutoring, subsituting, ect. (Private/public school, or after school program). Any information would help! Thanks.

without a degree or TEFL quals, and with only a short stay planned, it would be difficult to find a teaching position but preschools could be a different story - maybe someone here can advise you about teaching the little ones in Istanbul
a better idea, especially if you're planning a stay of only a few months, could be nannying. there are members here working in that field that might offer suggestions... but you should first tell us about yourself in the New Member Introductions section before posting elsewhere!

I spent three months this summer with a family in Istanbul, my own room, meals with the family but no pay. I tutored and played with the children in English for about three hours a day. I chose not to get any part-time work. Hope that helps! (BTW I advertised on Craigslist)

I don't know if this sounds interesting to you, but a Turkish businessman in Gebze is looking for a native English teacher/speaker who can do something like an English-immersion course. He wants the teacher to speak English during the day at work with him. He will provide salary&accomodation in Gebze. The downside is that Gebze is on the Asian side and quite far out from the center of Istanbul.
