Post This is what I want
It's simple. A bottled water dispenser. Not a pump. Not a big hot/cold electric one. Just a simple ceramic pot that sits on the counter with a tap that you upend the bottle into. the water delivery guys don't seem to have them. I've never seen one in a shop. If you know where they are sold, please reveal this information as well as what such a product is called in Turkish.

thx!

I haven't seen what you are describing yet, but I'll keep my eye out for it.

I know this isn't exactly what you are looking for, but have you considered a samovar-type dispenser (semaver in Turkish)? I'm thinking a big copper one that would look great in the kitchen and that you could hold onto for a lifetime? You can get the water delivery guy to pour your water into it thereby saving you the backstrain.

I've seen places serving boza or vişne suyu from them so it (obviously) doesn't have to be a hot drink.

The closest to what you're looking for is a kitchen barrel (Musluklu su bidonu). The slight problem is that even though it does the very job you'd like it to do, it's made out of plastic and it looks hideous (well, it's a barrel, after all). I have never seen ones made out of porcelain. Nor have I ever witnessed a copper samovar used to store water (no reason why not, mind).

What you describe sounds like an old-fashioned Bavarian beer dispenser made from pottery. Good luck.

I love the samovar idea! I have been wanting to get one for no good reason and now I have a good reason!

But it just seems to me that such a simple mechanism would be readily available in a country where everyone uses bottled water. I hate the pumps. They are only good for dispensing jungle juice at a party.

It is crazy you just mentioned jungle juice because as I replied to your message earlier I was thinking you should throw a wop party to break in your samovar if you would choose to purchase one and even Wiki'd 'wop'.

wop = jungle juice (at least in Wisconsin)

That's batch alcohol to the rest of you: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batch_%28alcohol%29

Yah, we loaded one of those 5 gallon water jugs up with homemade georgian chacha, several bottles of vodka, home made cherry juice and a lot of other things that have been lost to the fog of war, let it sit, then stuck the pump in it. Maybe that party is why I hate the pumps so much.
