Post Where to donate clothing in Istanbul?
Hi, I´d like to seriously empty my cupboard (further attempt to abdicate all material wealth). It is good but worn clothing and I would like to give it to an organisation that makes sure it reaches those who need it. Any ideas where to go in Istanbul for that? Hints are very appreciated.

Hey R.

just realised where you live: "Jott We De".

No, seriously, why not consider giving it to one of the guys who sleep rough down at the Bos, who we see when we run in the mornings?

Thanks a lot, will contact them. We did not make it to Edirne - had a minor car crash before even leaving IST, but no big deal. My cupboard is full, and 80 percent of it remains untouched most of the time. It strikes me that this is nonsense when there are glue-sniffing kids with no shoes on the street. Maybe these organizations can tell better than me who is in need and who is not.

not sure about the neighbourhood you live in.. but
where i live, if you put the clothes in a bag outside your apartment or near the garbage cans (rubbish bins for you euro types), the gypsies snatch them up faster than you can blink.
most of my friends and i just simply do that.
also - didnt the british council people collect clothing at some point - they sold it at one of their... soirre's (or whatever they are called)
(feeling a little slow - think i still have half the red sea in my ears haha)

True - when moving house I swear the stuff put in the street lasted..30 minutes...I don't know where the people came from.
That was Cihangir though - not quite the same as Arnavutkoy. Watch out for a loitering JC.

Contact for the parson of Christ Church in Galata: parson@tnn.net They have refugees/displaced persons who may be in need.

Charly, that´s more like it. I remember them working with illegal immigrants (ha: there is the analogy to my case). Good idea.

Hi,
I'm not sure about that abdicating of all material wealth business, but Ok, old clothes....my school has a club which takes any old clothes and distributes them every six months or so to poor villages....I guess it depends if you want to help poor Istabullu or poor Anatolians.... And as you seem to be one of the Bos runners you must live in A'koy, in which case it would be very close for you...easy donating!

Musulko just asked me via private post how to get the clothes to the school....but I can't answer private posts yet! So...you could arrange to bring it to the school gate in Arnavutkoy/Kurucesme and I could meet you and pick it up with my car and bring it up to the person running the club. How does that sound??

Hi, here comes a quick update:

Further to the options written above, there is an organisation (IIMP, Istanbul Interparish Migrations Program) that cares for illegal immigrants and refugees in Turkey. They are based in Tuenel and welcome donations. They also run a soup kitchen/clothing drive. Here is the coordinates:

Clothes, household items, etc. can be dropped Monday to Friday between 10 and 6. You should ask for Mehmet, the Kapici. IIMP is located at the Unyon Han Building, Istiklal Cad. No. 48 (next to Swedish Consulate).

the aforementioned denizfeneri organization has been caught funneling contributions to channel 7. they are being prosecuted in germany, but oddly, nothing seems to be happening in Turkey. If anyone has more links to news, pls send

I've got lots of clothes to get rid of. If anyone else in Cihangir has stuff too, you are welcome to drop it off at my house (Cihangir Caddesi) this week. Promsie you won't see me in it at the next party
.....can't say the same for StarThriftShop.
