Yes. These things are about rejuvenation. They're used to promote places that need a bit of a pick-up, and Izmir could really use help. It's rapidly losing its status as Turkey's third city. It can barely put together a football team. It's cut off from its traditional trading hinterland (the Aegean). It has lots of horrid buildings and a stinky bay. In short, it needs help, morale and confidence. Milan lacks none of these.

I vote against Izmir due to a personal dislike of the city on account of being 'infected' with chicken pox when I was there many years ago.
(I only really wrote this Spine so the thread would live on!)
