Post Stuff to do in Izmir...
So I realize that pretty much nobody on this forum is in Izmir, however from these old posts it sounds like people have actually been to this city. Anyway, I'm looking for stuff to do in this boring city. Any suggestions of any good hangouts/restaurants/bars etc... Please post some suggestions before I have to leave my husband and return to the US.

I havent had a night out in Izmir since the early 90's but all the good places were down in Alsancak and along the Kordon. When I was the the Sherrif bar and Mozarts were popular and then there was disco on in the central park where they old the int. fair. I used to have many good nights there and was fantastic if you was a single male in that city. But I guess all those places are gone now. I will be spending a week down there soon so maybe we could meet up and see whats going on after all these years in Izmir?

I don't know Izmir at all. I passed through there once only on the way to the bus terminus. I know Cesme more but really I am most familiar with Ilica. I have been to Cesme three times all in the summer time (2003-2005). It's nice at Aya Yorgi bay with the beach club setting: Sole Y Mare is the best place I think (esp. in the evenings) although Granada is not bad, Papaparazzi is good if you like rock music. There's also a newer place calle China (I don't know if this is the actual spelling). Alacati town is charming and that beach is famous for windsurfing and kite gliding. There is also a club there I went to once but I forgot the name. Laila took over spot in summer 2004 in Alacati. There's also Seaside where I saw Tiesto last summer. Kum beach is awesome and they have evening live bands there in the summer as well. Of course if you want to go to a nice resort beach, there's always the Sheraton on Ilica but I prefer the more natural setting. There are wonderful fish restaurants but I was brought there by friends so I don't know the names but I do remember this excellent but pricey seafood restaurant in nearby Dalyan called Dalyan Korfez Restaurant. Dalyan Mah.Liman Cad. No:151 in Dalyan, Cesme

I live in Izmir, but alas I am married and a daddy. So I don't get out to the clubs and bars much (umm...at all..). As far as bars and clubs go, there are a few good ones/areas to find them. This information centers around Alsancak, since it is pretty much all I know.

--If you're looking for a expat hangout, there are hordes of unruly obnoxious :P English/Welshmen at the Eko Pub. It is basically smack dab in the middle of Alsancak, all roads lead here. And you are pretty much guaranted to see an expat there. There are also at least one or two Turkish girls there always looking for American/English husbands too, so my wife tells me.

--There are also a bunch of bars and pubs on Kıbrıs Şehitleri. I've seen everything from heavy metal bars to coffee houses there. It definately has the most variety. Kıbrıs Şehitleri is the main walking/shopping/restaurtant street in Alsancak. Can't miss it.

-- Also in Kıbrıs Şehitleri, there are various dance clubs in which you can get your groove on and pay an enormous amount of money for alcohol. Off the top of my head there is Club 33 and Loop. There are a few new ones in the same area which I've heard are good. Loop is more of a snob fest, all the "Alsancak Girls" go there and strut it. Club 33 is more down to earth, more homey, better music (for club music anyway) and my (and my wife's) favorite.

-- If you are looking for a prostitute or transexual, come to my apartment building, they are always yelling and screaming until about 4AM right outside under my windows.

RSA, if I know where you are staying, and if it is actually in Izmir and not Cesme/etc., I can try and tell you what is close for you. I may be going to Ankara next week to look for an apartment, but if I'm in town and you are up for it, I can try to get a "Kitchen Pass" from my wife and kid and come out and have a beer or two.

Post I live in Izmir
I've lived in Izmir for several years, although I'm new to this forum. Not married, no kids, nothing to do but muck around the city. If anyone is traveling here looking for somewhere to go, let me know! There are quite a few expats living here as well, and certain places they go (which I wouldn't divulge on a public forum, but contact me directly and I'll let you in on things). And what's this about Izmir being categorized as "anywhere else" or whatever that was??? Izmir is the best!!! 8)
