paul - i will remind him to get you some tshirts - we will pick up some for you when we get to khao san at the end of this week

leaving laos today - back to chiang mai  love it here!!!!!!

and not a clue where we are going tomorrow hahahah
but am not too worried
since both of us are feeling a bit shattered after hanging out at the hive bar (very very cool place) for happy hour and then moving onto the lao lao bar last night
(and apparently M ended up at some illegal "vietnam bar" last night too hahah)
so... off to get soaked in the rain and wake up the sleeping monkey - we have a few things to do before our flight this afternoon
later skaters

Ha Ha!!! Sorry I havent been online in the last couple of days, its all been a bit of a blur :blackeye: Anyways, it was the weekend so none of you lot were around either!!

Just to recap.................On Saturday we went out to the local waterfalls with an English guy, 2 Dutch girls and 2 Isreali guys we had met on the bus on the way back from Vang Vieng to Luang Prabang (on Friday). It was a lovely place with pools at the bottom of each level of waterfall where you could have a swim in the cool water. Later on, back in town, me and Banana had a Lao massage. She just had a shoulder massage while I had something called a 'body polish'. This involved being rubbed down with essence of fruit (or something) all over my body. Guess it was like a 'scrub'? Anyway, by the time I got out, I smelled like a spicy fruit or Thai curry and took great delight in asking everybody to smell me. Then all the guys arranged to meet at a cool bar (The Hive Bar) for drinks at 7pm. Hive Bar has a great DJ and very trendy atmosphere which was totally unexpected to be found in that town!! We moved on to the "Lao Lao' bar, where they basically serve large measures of the local whisky or vodka in disgusting cocktails. After that (and Banana went home) I headed off with the others to an 'illegal' bar on the outskirts called "Vietnam' bar. Its basically a market or cafe during the day but moonlights is a bar at night (all behind closed doors of course so the police dont find out, even though there are about 10 tuk tuks waiting outside for business  ). Finally left there about 2.30 in the morning, so had absolutely no desire to be writing to you lot first thing Sunday morning

Sunday, we grabbed the plane back to Cheng Mai in Thailand without any mishap even though it didnt stop raining all day.Arrived back at our house about 4pm and just chilled ( as I was in no fit state to do anything). Went to a Middle Eastern restaurant for dinner where I had some kofte!!! Ahh...a taste of home :) Had a walk around the walking market, which is basically a huge street market that they have once a week with all sorts of things to buy including a stall with 'phallic' items shall we say, even a brass monkey spanking his monkey  Banana introduced me to the delights of a drink, which consisted of coconut milk and stringy bits of green jelly!! It actually wasnt bad at all.

Monday we got up late and had lunch at Pizza Hut in one of the local malls and said our goodbyes to penny (Bananas mate) and our house host for the duration and made our way to the railway station for our 5.50 train to Bangkok. It was an overnighter where your chairs change into bunkbeds. The journey was due to take 12 hours. Bearing in mind, it had been raining pretty much non stop for 2 days, it came as no surprise when the train was first delayed for 2 hours, and then cancelled completely due to flooding on the track!!! :( (The town had actually started to flood and looks like they are heading for a repeat of last year when the town was under a couple of feet of water. I missed all the fun, as I was outside the station chatting to my girlfriend on the phone. I arrived back in the station to a scene of chaos as all the passengers were queueing for refunds and poor old Banana was struggling off the train with all her backpacks and mine!! But Thai railways are pretty damn good I must say, because within 20 minutes about 6 large coaches had turned up at the station to take us to Bangkok by road. The journey is actually quicker by road anyway.

So, after about 10 (very sleepless) hours, we finally arrived in Bangkok at 6.30am this morning. Banana had actually managed to get some sporadic sleep, whereas I managed to read half a novel and only slept for the last half hour due to complete exhaustion :pale: The coach dropped us at the railway station which was our original destination anyway. As luck would have it, Banana read her "Lonely Planet' guide and it said there was a 6.55 train to Pattaya!! Result!!! I went and booked the tickets and we jumped on the train for our last tiring leg of 2 days of travel....................

Pattaya

Well, here I am. Got in this morning after our marathon journey and tried to find a hotel. All the budget and mid range hotels are quite frankly, crap and icky!! So we got a couple of rooms at a swanky(ish) hotel, with a pool on the roof, that was doing a special 3 day midweek promotion. All for 25 dollars a night

First impressions of the town??? Not good!!! Lots of sad old white men bumbling around with a young Thai girl on their arms. I expected to see it of course, but its still depressing :( And quite a few, very obviously underdressed young street girls. Has a decidely seedy feel to it. Had a good sleep this afternoon to recharge our batteries and we find ourselves now in the internet cafe. And guess what?? Its STILL RAINING!!!

We're going out shortly to sample the nightlife  I have no idea what to expect, and even though I'm a bit of a monkey perv, I have a feeling I'm gonna find all that a bit seedy too :( But we'll see.....maybe the go go girls and the ping ping popping will cheer me up

Will let you know my thoughts tomorrow...................................

Paul: I'll try and get you at least a couple of t-shirts. It all depends on the weight limit etc (and space in the backpack!!)

I have to get Brightbear some Thai curry pastes also.

Monsta: Is there anything specific you want (as reward for lending me your backpack)? Or shall I choose something??

well well well hello boys and girls... apparently it is my turn to report on the monkey and banana south east asian adventure
haha
ahhhh pattaya - a cesspool of seediness and fun... an interesting mix for sure
this is my second time here - i was here about 4 years ago with a girlfriend after touring Cambodia and Vietnam - and then we didnt stay in the maintown - so this is a bit of an adventure for me as well...
first things first - it was sunny today - so there is hope for my final 3 weeks in thailand hahah
so... last night monkey and went off down to check out what pattaya at night had to offer.. and let me tell ya - it delivers anything and anyone you want on a very tarnished silver platter. The strip in front of the beach has any item of crap you could ever want for sale... a kimono, a samurai sword, a tarrantula in glass... pirate dvds... argh - and they have taken to trying to grab and shake your hand when you pass = what is this, cairo??
anyways
off to walking street for some sordid fun  we purused the scene... pinklit girlie bars everywhere, gogos every second foot... european women dancing in windows above the street...
eep. so we settled into an irish pub for some guiness reinforcements (well me anyways.. i believ the monkey is still quite taken with chang.. but i am converting him to tiger!)
after some fueling, we headed out to see which go go club we should check out..
now the ladie bars do not interest me... i would have had to chat up some poor thai girl who would have only been confused about me being there... and the abundance of old fat men witting alone was disgusting haha
so after trying to decide between "beavers", and various other places named a random combination of words like "hot", "sweet", "pussy cat"... i decided on angelwitch - a rock bar! hahah
now
i have been in girliebars before.. so the gyrating girls in "rock/bondage" outfits did not shock me at all... and so since many of our esteemed members know what strip clubs are like.. i need not explain
BUT
i do think its interesting to mention that you can buy pingpongs (let me finish before you get all excited) and toss them at the girl of your choice.. this she turns in for money. NOW, if siad girl does not manage to catch the ball you throw at her, all other girls shriek and scramble around on stage
this causes great amusement for all the wait staff
what can i say... a great show - my personal favourite involved a couch, two girls and the pj harvey song "to bring you my love"
the scary bondage girl who swung around like a chinese acrobat and whipped the stage was pretty cool as well
i had tonnes of fun chatting up the staff, trading waxing tips and rolling our eyes at the clientele.... this is mostly because i had to share the only female bathroom with the girls ... and it was also used as their changeroom. it was pretty funny
later we got dragged by some nutter kiwi that we met off to Tonys (I think thats the name... it was late and had been drinking haha) - which apparently is quite a chic nightclub.
i thought it was pretty cheesey and there were wayyyyyyyy too many middle eastern men grabbing at anything that moved (again... is this cairo? hahah)
so before i raced out to get my "i am not for sale" tshirt printed, we decided to head home
and i woke up this morning feeling like i was going to die... damn tiger beers! hahah
so... yes.. the place is seedy and sordid.. but definately interesting

Well, we didnt actually do much yesterday. What with suffering from raging hangovers and nudity overload!!

Must say though, that the bars and go go girls are a great idea, but after about 2 hours it all gets a bit jaded. Having said that, I think we were lucky to pick 'Angelwitch' becasue as Banana says, the shows were actually pretty good. Not seedy at all, more on the erotic side. It was quite something to see these girls leaping from pole to pole. Thats bloody difficult to do, so hats off to those girls.

So yesterday, we managed breakfast at 1pm and did some chores that needed doing (post office, flight confirmation etc.) and as it was so damn hot and muggy and we were suffering, we went to the cinema at 3pm!!!! Lovely air conditioning was just what the doctor ordered and we sat and watched "Miami Vice' :D Not a bad film actually. Soundtrack is banging (as usual for a Michael Mann film), but the film itself isnt really up to par with "Heat". But still worth a look nonetheless. After that we had a dinner at "Sizzlers" restaurants and sat by the window and bitched about all the weird characters walking past. Dirty old men, slobby old french guy with his shirt open, a guy with a ladyboy (we assume he knew this  ). Pattaya really is a colourful place!! We were actually commenting what it would be like to raise kids here  Must be a few awkward questions!!

Last nite we went for a stroll around the bars again and met up with the crazy kiwi (Michael) and had a beer or two. There was a nice bar that involved a jacuzzi set into the floor, but thats another story............................ But unfortunately, the hangover (and old age in my case) caught up with us and we were back in the hotel by midnite O:)

Today started with blazing sunshine and Banana was up on the roof by the pool catching some rays. I laid in bed cos I like my sleep :D Then at midday it was monsoon time again. And its still raining now, 3 hours later. Bananas back at the hotel chilling and I think I'm off for a head and shoulder massage (no extras). Probably end up in a couple of bars tonite as there really isnt much else to do here!! Its actually quite a funny town in a very bizarre way. Especially as you walk past the bars and all the girls screech at us. Its even more funny when we sit in the bar and you can see the go go girls kinda freaked cos I'm sitting with Banana  Keeps them away from me for a while anyway.b :D

Laters folks................
