Many moons ago it was. The first single I bought was by a Sydney band called the Sunnyboys. Alone with You.
It still has one of my favourite lines: "All I have is alcohol so let me go", although I was way to young to be drinking at the time.
In the Summertime by Mungo Jerry. I guess a few of you won't remember him, so I've been trying for the last 20mins to attach a photo here but can't get it to work. I guess David Simpson will remember him as he's from the same era as Ballroom Blitz (I had a massive crush on Brian Connelly)
I remember that song, I had a wonderful summer and my friends and I used to sing along w/Mungo and we were so happy!! Thanks for reminding me!
The first single I bought was I wanna hold your hand by the Beatles.

I think it might have been an Elvis Presley -- which one I don't recall. Maybe "Return to Sender"?

I've been watching "Underbelly", a ganglands drama based on real events that is showing in Australia at the moment (except for Victoria where the courts have stopped it), and was stoked to hear the last song at the end of Episode 9 was a cover of the very first single I bought. Man I was a cool kid.
