 Vinyl v Plastic (CD/DVD) etc???
looking at Bodrum Chics excellent post - first single? - happy days...
but what about vinyl? especially 12" LPs? for me vinyl has an everlasting quality - when you pick up a 'record' - it has purpose, definition, meaning....remember when you either got your 1st LP for Xmas or you had enough cash actually buy one...weyhaee!!
records had a cover, an inner sleeve, and shit that you read while you were sitting in your bedroom...ı used to spend hours reading all that stuff - remember those fuzzy felt record cleaners - wiping it across the vinyl -checking it for fluff before carefully placing it on the turntable - what was that all about (ı thınk ıt was a zen thing - being in the zone with yourself and the disc...) then - picking up the cover and reading the lyrics - weehay!
First LP I bought...was Band on The Run by Wings (what a total bag of shıte!!)...followed by Pink Floyd, loads of Queen (every last person ın my class knew the lyrıcs to Bohemıan Rhapsody (classic)...then into punk big time - Pistols, Clash and Velvet Underground etc...
the undeniable fact - 12" records/LPs etc...were absolutely brill for laying on top of your crossed legs while you rolled a big fag listening to Led Zep II etc...cant do that on a CD cover can you.....happy days
