Post Advice on education and schools?.
Hi,
my husband, children and i are planning to move to Turkey next year (probably July). We have 2 boys, 1 is 15 and the other is 12. By the time July comes the elder will have finished his schooling. We are looking for advice on education, private schools, state schools or private tutors. The area we are moving too is Altinkum.
Any advice or links to other advice sites would be very welcome.
Thanks
Maureen

Until 8th grade, all private and public "Turkish" schools have to follow the state curriculum. Some private schools claim to teach English along with the state curriculum. Then, there are schools for ex-pats, like British School, International School, or MEF, which are free to follow their own curriculum. They are not recognized by the state system, which should not be a concern for you.

At the high school level, some private schools start curriculum in foreign languages. ENKA, Koc and 100. Yil,teaching in English, are among them. Most offer IB diploma. They still need some Turkish for some of the courses. My children are ayyending ENKA school. It took them a couple of years to adjust. There are a few English and American kids in the school.
