 An Aussie girl in Ankara
A great big hello to everyone! I moved to Ankara in the beginning of December, was frozen half to death by the end of the month, escaped to the Caribbean (for work) in early January, and apprehensively ventured back to Ankara in early March. I'm still cold but I'm dealing with it and settling in pretty well. I'm working on lots of business ideas that I would love to get off the ground here with my Turkish partner. I love variety, I love change and I love to be challenged ... and I know you're going to say that I've definitely come to the right place for a challenge or two ... so I'm desperately trying to learn Turkish in order to have any hope of competing with the daily trials and tribulations of being a foreigner trying to build a business in Turkey. I haven't met any English-speaking foreigners yet and I wonder where they all are. If you're in Ankara and if you'd like someone to share your expat experiences with, I'd love to hear from you. I'm also looking forward to hearing any inside advice about how to "survive" in Ankara - where to go, what to do etc. I've already learned a lot from reading the posts on this forum and I look forward to learning more. I wish you well!

Welcome to Ankara noysee. Your arrival has increased the number of Aussies in Ankara by about 20 percent. As Spine said, we organise drinks here every now and again. Keep looking.

Hi Noysee,
welcome to Ankara & the forum. I just came back from a 3 week trip to Oz (mainly Sydney) and I loved it.
So if you are up for exchanging some expat experiences or memories of Oz, let me know.
Enjoy your time in beautiful Turkey!
Dirk

Re: An Aussie girl in Ankara
By the way Ankara people. We are organising another small "let's practice English" night of drinks on Tuesday night. The practicing English bit is us Aussies slowing down enough for Spine and DS to understand the drawl. More details soon.

Re: An Aussie girl in Ankara
A gathering on Tuesday (or Wednesday) sounds fun I look forward to hearing about how much trouble you got yourself into downunder Dirk... Jonowales, I'm not from Sydney or Melbourne, I'm actually from Brisvegas as the locals affectionately call our little place. Hope to meet all of you on Tuesdee (or Wensdee ) night. Cheers! ... just warming up CC
