 California to Istanbul...
Hi Everyone,
My name is Lauren and I am going to be making the move from the US to Turkey in just over three weeks! I studied in Ankara during my third year in college and absolutely fell in love with the country. Since I've been dying to get back, I've taken a job as a copy editor with a newspaper and am about to relocate to Istanbul.
I am looking forward to perusing this site (as I am going to need all the advice I can get for housing, etc) and meeting all of you in the near future!

I grew up in the San Fernando Valley (outside of Los Angeles), but my family has since relocated to Carmel Valley (in the Monterey Bay area). I guess you could say I am from both places?
I am going to be working for Today's Zaman.

I'm 6th generation northern Californian (then moved to Texas).
Glad they're hiring more native English speaking editors at TZ. There are a few of us on the forum who write for them.

Welcome! I too lived in California, but ages ago -- in beautiful Oakland where I went to Art School and realized I wasn't a sculptor. I've met only two folks from this mildly insane bunch, but if they are examples, you will be made to feel at home.

This will be a huge disappointment but neither do I. Welcome all the same.

Welcome. I'm in San Francisco now but hopefully I'll be in Istanbul in 6-8 weeks. I have been 'summering' in Turkey for the past 7 years now. You'll definitely find it interesting to be in this forum and it will be quite an experience for you to be living in Istanbul.

Welcome! I'll be arriving in about two-ish weeks. From Michigan, but go to school in Alabama. I'll be a senior in the fall. Looking forward to meeting you at one of the infamous EiT parties!

I spent a summer working out of Mattawan, MI (Kalamazoo area), leading backpacking/canoe trips for at-risk youth. Where in that beautiful state are you from? Also, where in Alabama do you go to school? I studied in Ankara with a girl from BSC and am wondering if you know her...
Thanks for the greetings - I am looking forward to meeting all of you this summer!

Oh that's really cool. I am from the Detroit-ish area. I go to Samford University in Birmingham. I don't know many people from BSC, but I may know your friend. How long have you been at of school? I think I am the baby on the forum...

Her name is Shyla and she is a senior involved with the Muslim Student Association.
I am actually graduating in about two weeks, so you aren't a baby by too much.

Hi Cow,
Welcome.
I will be in San Diego later this month, so my connection with California is now established.
Thank you.
