Of course Elif Safak had to be in there as well. I always welcome an engaging debate on how the rest of the world is after us . As long as the content of your posts does not solely consist of the words ad hominem I am sure we will have a productive exchange.

You sound like an intellectual version of IanRice. This is a great compliement. Welcome.

Meet DAI. I am sure you two will quickly become friends.
I am also going to have to pick you up on digital watches but this is negated by dark chocolate (and to a lesser extent democracy, free speech and natural light).

welcome, I've got to admit that I had to look up hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia and would agree with you on that one. I'm sure you'll have fun here and watch out for deceivinganillusion cos he believes that we are all commonwealther, oriental romanticists (don't blame me that's his words) who don't see (or are a part of) the conspiracy you allude to in your introduction.....

Vromen,
Welcome. You'll find a number of writers here -- what's your gig? In years gone by, I ran full-tilt into Henry K in Harvard Square (we were both rounding a corner) and he apologized profusely, so I forgave him many things. Dark chocolate is one of the finer gifts to humanity.

Hey Memory,
Welcome to the forum
I'm a writer too.
BTW there's a discussion/talk by journalist/writer Andrew Finkel (Turkey correspondent for TIME) this week if u'd like to attend.
It's at the Hilton on Friday 21 March at 11am.
He will be discussing the changing face of Istanbul for better or worse.

Such kind words, although it appears the kind words quickly fade away in the 'real' forum as the verbal jousting begins.
