 Hello (for the future...!)
Hi everyone,
We're in beautifully rainy Cumbria, UK at the moment - but heading to Istanbul for 12 months in September. Matt (from Toastmasters) suggested that we wave at you all before we arrive, find out where the parties are - and plan to join you as soon as we can!
So here's the wave - - and hopefully we can get to know everyone before we turn up on your doorsteps armed with cheap red wine!
Sarah (and Peter)

Welcome for the future, but please bear in mind that we are all wine connoisseurs here and used to nothing but the best. Will be waiting with glasses ready.

Why are you coming. At least you have rain (and subsequently water) in Cumbria which will be scarce here. Fill it into bottles and bring it with you, so you can have a shower every now and then.
Welcome to the forum!

Welcome to the site and good luck when you arrive:
I know a little of Cumbria as my sister lives there and it is lovely, a few observations of te differences you might notice between Cumbria and Istanbul:
1) Cumbria has water (as mentioned by Johnathan
2) Cumbria is green and beatuiful - istanbul has little greenery and lots of buildings (it is beatuiful in its own way)
3) The number of people - Imagine the number of people at Lake Windermere on a bank holiday monday and that is pretty much like everywhere in Istanbul
As for red wine tell David S that it is high quality wine and if he complains tell him his pallete isn't developed well enough to appreciate its full bodied nature.

And if Mike tells you there is little green in Ist, come out to my place and see the forest .... bring your wine though. If it has to come on a pallet then that's fine with me.

Welcome Sarah (and Peter). What wine do we have the pleasure to look forward to from such a rainy part of the world? Blackthorn? ;-) Turkey, by the way, also has lots of cheap wines, only that they are being sold for high prices.

Welcome. I remember Cumbria fondly esp. Lake Ullswater. It was a bank holiday weekend indeed but it it was still pretty calm at Sharrow Bay Hotel then. Have you seen a rapping bunny lately?
Enjoy Istanbul in the future! I will too as I won't be returning until 2008.

 Thanks, all...
Oh - you're all so nice!
But I do think there's a touch of romanticism creeping into those memories of Cumbria...! Trust me - it's very wet, very cold, and utterly dismal at the moment! It's an easy decsion; This, or glorious, romantic, hectic, bustling, historical Istanbul....?
And we're driving over, so I'm afraid the wine will be wedged into those small gaps that appear around the edges of an over-filled van, and all shook up by the time we get there. So - we're on the hunt for long-life vino in unbreakable bottles. Any ideas...?
See you all anon...
Sarah & Peter

Just get a few Tesco 5 litre boxes, we can decant them into bottles when you're here. Of course I'm assuming that you're bringing wine for us, your new best friends.
Everybody sing!
Ooooh, you make me live......
