Hello from a french newcomer in Istanbul
Hi everybody,
I arrived in Istanbul a week ago for work resons: I am on a mission until the end of 2007.
I am french. I speak english (fluent) and a little (very little) german (and obviously french! lol)
I have been in the US and in germany.
I am looking for good hints about what to do in Istanbul (at least I have a touristic guide!), good places to go, meet people and have fun in Istanbul!
bye

Bonjour
Welcome to Istanbul and good luck with your mission (or work assignment?) Hopefully it won't be mission impossible?
You will find a big French community here including my husband but unfortunatley no French cheese
Bon courage

 Thanks
Hi again,
Thanks for all the answers!
Sorry, Elisa, can't tell what the mission is, I would have to erase your memory then!
Ch is right, I like good sounds
The only thing I can, Utabe, is that it is a beer based mission! but I am looking for more local drinks!
Thanks Matt. I think I feel like I am going enjoy my stay in Istanbul!
Apparently I have a secret mission partner with D.S.
And finally salut to red who must understand me in being sick because of the cheese addiction!
To all, where are the hot places to meet people (internationals if possible, my turkish is still quite limited!) and have a drink?
See ya

hi jbl, and welcome,
i may be interested if you are here for a foie gras mission,
even if it could be dangerous with many duck spies down here ...
by the way, we definitively have to set a stincking-cheese-party.
see you soon,
guillaume, french "eatable foie gras" eater !

 Hello guys
Thanks again for the welcoming posts
Sorry I did not bring any foie gras in my luggage. there was not any room left!!!
But I am definitely up for some smelly-cheese-parties.
Speaking of the devil, Does anyone know if there is a all-cheese-you-can-eat party at the french consulate in Istanbul for our beloved national day on the 14th? I went there during last weekend, but I did not find any information about it? Maybe some of you would know something!!!
By the way how can I send my contact wihtout everyone seeing them?
Thanks, bye

As far as I remember (drank too much drinkable Turkish wine but) this year's all-cheese-you-can-eat party - eatable cheese version - is held at capybara's place, provided you bring some eatable foie gras along - respectively eatable escargots. As most of us are from Commonwealth we also eat them raw by the way, just pick them up by the way.

 dam bad luck!
I knew I should have thought about getting some foie gras in my luggage!
For the snails, have the impression the neighborhood is a bit dry to find some nice fat snails!
May be some frogs! are there any swamps around? For a party, I should get at least a couple bull frogs!

JBL, I live in the outskirts of Istanbul, and the snails that walk accross my dog's food in my garden every day do look very fat and juicy and delicious (they are light brown and extremely slimy, and if I touch them I cannot wash the slime off my hands for a couple of days - would that be the right "brand"?). Please let me know size and colour and I can bring some kilos.
