 Introducing...
Hi, my name is West, I'm a half-Turk born and raised in Seattle. I speak enough Turkish to get by conversationally, and am here now to try to perfect my language skills in order to pursue grad studies in Turkish History.

 Welcome, West!
Dear West,
There seems to be a large Seattle contingent here. We were living in Capitol Hill as of a week ago. Feel free to call upon us (if we ever get a phone; Turk Telecom strike) if you want some Pacific Northwest vibes.
Best, Nassim & Miguel

 re: the Seattle Contingent
I know, I actually brought two other Seattleites with me and have a few friends from there living here myself. I'm new to the whole Expat-in-Turkey scene, and am responding here because I couldn't figure out how to reach you privately... I'd be happy to be in touch; also, if you need help with anything (for example, finding cheap/reliable cellphones while the strike lasts) just let me know. I was living on 20th & Roy - the back side of the Hill myself - funny, neighbors there & neighbors here.

 Capitol Hill and Microsoft
Dear West,
You can reach the Capitol Hill folks (14th and John) at: nassefi at yahoo.com. I haven't figured out how to individually reply either.
To Jono, yes, Miguel was with Microsoft, my dad was with Boeing, and we try to avoid Starbucks (especially now that we've found a charming independent cafe called Cegiz a block away with wireless). The nice thing about Starbucks is that it seems to be one of the few smokefree public places in Istanbul.
Gule gule, Nassim

HI West,
Welcome to the forum & to Istanbul. I am half Turkish myself (the other half is Dutch ) and I am sure you will be able to see the contrasts between what you read and see real fast.
Greetings,
Vic.

Smoke free places? I dream of those! But they are about.
Enjoy the city!
