Hi folks. I am a single Aussie male moving to Istanbul later in the year to take up a new job. I currently live in rural NSW and am looking forward to hooking up with lots of new people and improving my Turkish!!! Drop in and visit me on my postings and we'll chat.

Well, Aussie,
I hope this living in rural NSW has been only "currently". If you have never lived in a big City outside Australia, this place is going to be shock for you. Even Melbourne or Sydney wouldn't have you prpeared for this.
I am not saying you won't enjoy it. But it will be, ehm..., different, and i am not only talking about the weather.
Have fun (actuall, what are you planning to do here for your living?

I'm surprised the name "Aussie" hasn't been used on the forum in the past.
Anyway, I'm sure Aussie will fit in, we seem to have an ability to fit in most places. Last I read there are 1 million Australians living outside the country.
Welcome mate

Welcome Aussie!
I'm sure you are going to have a great time here. Whereabouts in rural NSW are you from? Oz Kanka really said it all, that we do fit in in most places, so no doubt you will have quite an adventure here.
Enjoy!!

Last I read, in London you are never more than 10 foot from a Rat...or an Australian. Luckily we are in Istanbul.
Welcome to Istanbul!

Aussie
Welcome to the forum. As long as you remain flexible, you'll do just fine in Istanbul. Check in here often to get an idea of things to run into. Start making your list of foods you may miss and check to see if there are any posts pertaining to where (if possible) its found in Istanbul. Foods seem to run high on the "things missed most" list. Jonny has turned out to be the man on the street in search of various culinary treats. He's got a knack for it. Good luck.

Aussie, WELCOME! (small shout!)
Worry not. You'll find folks to help = Aussie or not. I have a Turkish friend here in Sultanahmet married to a Aussie woman. Also, my Turkish business partner spent over ten years in Sidney as a chef; if you lived there, you might have eaten at his restaurant (first, kebaps then pizza).
What advice do you think you'll need -- apart from understanding the variety of English-speakers' accents?
