New in Istanbul - search private Turkish teacher
Hey there,
I just moved to Istanbul a month ago and will stay here for a while, I'm originally from Germany, but travel a lot.
In the moment I am searching a Turkish teacher for private lessons, so any recommendations are welcome!
Matt

welcome Matt,
have a look around the website or do a search, there are plenty of comments on language schools and teachers "good & bad"

Welcome Haisi. Please tell us a bit about yourself. What is your mission in Istanbul, given that the Turkish lessons go according to planned? I'm sure you will find it to be a most insteresting city.

 Thanks
Thanks for the warm welcome,
Hiasi is my nickname, it's the Bavarian/ Austrian short form for Matthias.
I am going to finish my Master here and will start to work in February.
Apart from the Turkish lessons, I would really like to find some people for activities I like, like Poker and Schafkopf (I guess you have to be Bavarian to know this game)...so if anyone is interested or know someone who knows someone...just let me know

I'm sure that Laughingboy will be in touch with you regarding the poker. What the hell is Schafkopf? Do you eat it afterwards? In the meantime welcome!

A Schafkopf joke:
Bavarian peasant's leaving home Sunday morning to play Schafkopf in a tavern. Says to the wife: Wen i bis zum Mittagessn net dahoam bin, dann brauchst mit`m Abendess`n net auf mi z`wartn. [If I'm not home for lunch, don't wait for me for supper.]

Don't blame it on the Germans. This is a joke from the Funny Free State of Bavaria.

"German humour is for linguistic reasons quite different from British humour. German sentence construction, and its fewer double meanings (because of the way it creates compound words) mean that German humour has to rely more on humorous ideas than on plays on words.
Because German humour is quite different from British, the Germans have a reputation in Britain for having no sense of humour. In May 2007, for example, the Spiegel magazine commented that the British now had an image of the typical German as "der gnadenlos effiziente, aber humorlose Ingenieur" ("the mercilessly efficient but humourless engineer") " http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_humour
I see nothing in here about just the Bavarians Uta! And by funny ideas they mean hitting each other with dead fish and the like.....!!

Väry interestink, Jono. Oh dear, the German language is just so awful, fully unfunny.
"In the daybeforeyesterdayshortlyaftereleveno'clock Night, the inthistownstandingtavern called `The Wagoner' was downburnt. When the fire to the onthedownburninghouseresting Stork's Nest reached, flew the parent Storks away. But when the bytheraging, firesurrounded Nest itself caught Fire, straightway plunged the quickreturning Mother-stork into the Flames and died, her Wings over her young ones outspread."
