 new poster hello
This is Joanna from California now living in Istanbul doing various things to keep busy. Now staying on the Asian side but always all over the place.
I am interested in how to stay peaceful and sane in this crazy city. Thanks all for the helpful tips I have already read on the forums, esp. about residence permits!

Welcome. Who would want to stay peaceful and sane in this city, crazy insanity is the whole Modus Operandi of Istanbul.

Hi Joanna,
Welcome to Istanbul! I'm a fellow American (grew up in Denver), and just arrived in Istanbul myself. I'm here for work, and will be around for somewhere between 4 months and a year.
Not to be sketchy, but I don't have plans for the weekend and still havent met many people here. Would you want to meet up to grab a 'welcome' drink somewhere?
Best-
Shelby

Welcome to Istanbul Joanna.
Where are you living on the Asian side? re: your request for tips about peace and sanity: don't try to get around during rush hour and avoid crossing the bridges in a vehicle as much as possible - take the ferries
btw, I can vouch for Shelby. He's a great guy with some interesting stories.
Unfortunately I'm a little busy this week-end, but maybe some other newbies want to have an informal thing somewhere as well?

Welcome Joanna! Another American here- grew up in Michigan. I'm also living on the Asian side in Kadikoy. Maybe we could meet for coffee sometime?

Hi Joanna,
welcome to Istanbul. Have fun and enjoy the vibrant City. But surely, if you are into "peacefull and sane" may be you need regular brakes from the City live and go to the country site.
