 Returning to Istanbul
Hi there
I am an Australian woman and lived in Istanbul for two years previously. Then I got annoyed with it and went home for a while. For various reasons I am returning but this time it is absolutely and completely necessary to have some expat friends who play sport and socialise.
Istanbul should be hotting up these days with all the foreigners coming to town so see you soon!

Welcome LAT. I have a similar history with Istanbul, and as a (sad) matter of fact, having foreign friends can definitely be a life saver. Some of us go to the movies tonight, on the European side, let me know if you wanna join.

 Welcome back
Hope this time you'll have a better experience! What brings you back? Are you coming from Australia?

Thanks Utabe but i am not back yet - i am coming later in the year via a stint in Spain where I will be finishing off my MBA.
God knows what i will do when I get back to Istanbul though- it does not appear that employers like qualified employees (who speak Turkish but are not Turkish) with years of experience.

Depending on where you’re from working culture can be quite incomprehensible here. So I guess there should be other good, strong reasons for being/coming here (what were these again?). But I do think there are some good employers here, the question is how to find them. Maybe target foreign companies?

Will be first one to say putting your personal number on a public forum is not a very sensible thing to do.

No shortage of Expats here. I am sure you'll have a good time, this time around. Make sure you revive your "Intro" shortly before you arrive. You might get invited to a Newbies dinner than (as obviously you cannot attend the next one, not that it has beeen scheduled yet))

well easier to stop e-mail you don't want than Mehmet and Muhammed ringing you up at 4 in the morning saying "hello my friend how are you, i can show to istanbul for foreign woman"
