Post Sports addict new to Istanbul
Hi everyone,

Officially, I'm here to teach English. Unofficially, though, I am here to explore Turkey by bike. Most people think I'm crazy, but I love the hills and the sea views. I'm having fun getting to know the Black Sea coast (away from the Istanbul traffic.) Anyway, I have noticed that I see very few road bikers out there. I've also noticed that local Gozleme vendors and fishing village residents seem to categorize a tall female on a bike in much the same way as a pig with wings. So, I was wondering, are there any other road bikers out there?

OK, a little more about me: I live in Sariyer, but am interested in moving southwards (i.e. to the Arnavutkoy area.) In addition to sports, I am a bit obsessed with Brazilian music and culture.

I'm glad to hear about EIT's interest in running. I used to be an avid runner myself until I was sidelined by an injury. I still like to associate myself with these adrenaline-obsessed types however.

So, hello to everyone!

Jonathan, another one for the cult.

Welcome Schluta.

Welcome and you might understand I am a bit curious about that name SchlUTA ;-)
It seems that runners & marathoners are also very obsessed with Arnavutköy.

once you arrived in Arnavutköy, you can find running mates from Beginner level to Ironman/sub 3h Marathon.

Give us a shout when you are ready to join in with the "Arnavutköy Running Mafia".

Hi here - true about the bikes. My husband is mad into road biking and is attempting to go out this Sun morning for first time to head towards coast (from Bebek). If he manages to get back in one piece he might be interested in company/advice on where to go.

Looks like I`ve got to monitor this thing a little more frequently...

Thanks for the welcomes!

Let me see, I`m originally from the U.S., but I try not to fit the stereotypes too much...except when it comes to my frequent use of running shoes...

Schluta is a nickname based on my last name. I kind of like it :)

As for biking, I was wondering, Red Fire, if your husband is still up for a ride (or if the maiden voyage discouraged him.)

I hope everyone`s having a good Wednesday.

Hi He survived Bebek-Kilyos return last Sunday but realised that he wasn't as fit as he was last year. Would you be interested this Sunday - he left Bebek around 8.15am.

Yeah, for sure.

I know the route to Kilyos well. It's much nicer when Radar Live isn't playing, which will be the case this up-coming Sunday.

I'll probably be coming from Ortakoy. Any chance he's up to starting a bit later?

Hi there - he could but I think the problem is trying to avoid the traffic (mad drivers). what time suits you best to start of at?

I think I could schedule to pass by Bebek at around 9:30 or so. Yeah, from what I've figured out so far, the best way to avoid crazy drivers is to hop on the boat and go to Asia. Once in Asia, it seems better to stick to the more northern regions. Anyway, this is probably a plan for a later date.

Hi - I've just found out that my babysitter can't come on Sunday morning and as I'm running in Belgrade we can't leave our kids home alone (much as they would love it!). Could you do Sat instead at same time? I'll pm you our contact details.
