Post STUD in Ankara
Hi,
writing my intro before I actually arrived in Ankara. Already disqualified? Hope not! :)

In a nutshell: am in my best years, male, last location was Vienna. Lately I became a STUD -spouse trailing under duress (successfully) :D - as my wife was offered a job in Turkey. Will be a completely new experience...looking forward for some time off the job and get some Turkish lessons.

My wife is Dutch, I am German, we lived in various European countries and the Middle East before. Oh, and we both like cooking, travelling, long distance running, live music and drink beer by the barrel, too, but soccer matches we watch apart to avoid trouble :-# As the Dutchies say: een erg gezellig stel, beetje gek mischien !

We'll move to Ankara end March, c u there,

SundanceKid

no trouble watching the football matches together here. last year the German embassy organised the openings game party and i walked into the embassy grounds with my orange shirt. some may say i have a death-wish but there was no problem. perhaps because they were winning ;)

my mates were clad in their respective national team jerseys: America, Australia, England, Turkey. we had great fun. this year it is the turn to the Austrians and the Swiss.

'best' question by a German i got that night: 'Are you Dutch?' :?

Welcome to the forum SundanceKid. Enjoy Turkey while the wife is bringing home the bacon. Being a STUD can have its advantages.

Welcome Sundance,
Good to see another footy fan coming to Ankara. Make sure you tell us when you arrive and we can meet up for a beer. As for football, there are quite a few foreign footy supporters here in Ankara, we go to the local matches practically every week.

Thanx for the welcome guys !

Happy to hear there's some fellow Studs in Ankara, looking forward to exchange the latest isues of Housekeepers Monthly with you

Footy fans, checking out matches is done deal! I heard there's two premier league teams in Ankara, right? Still going ballistic thinking about that we're leaving Austria 3 months before the European Championship starts ](*,) , had a fair chance getting sponsor tickets...

Flying Dutchman, talking about suicidal tendencies: definitely taking my beloved No. 13 Ballack shirt to the Austrian Embassy if they throw a proper party. But WHY would THEY celebrate ?... :-k

Cheers,

SundanceKid

There are four Ankara teams in the Super Lig in Ankara, but only two proper teams. Genclerbirligi and Ankaragucu. Of the other two Genclerbirligi Oftas are a sort of junior squad (even though they are ahead of their seniors in the table) and Ankaraspor are a way for the mayor to spend money on his ego and not the huge pot hole just down the road.

Hello SundanceKid, I like your name. What does it mean, where does it come from (I hope this is not a completely stupid question).

In case Sundance is weary of saying this, in America there is a heoric legend about two outlaws who robbed banks and had a movie made about them. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.
